One of the most notable features of the new iPhone OS 3.1 and iTunes 9.0 update is the home screen feature. This is a very powerful feature, and I’m sure many iPhone and iPod Touch users will find it very convenient. I’m impressed with how easy Apple has made it for us.
In this post I’ll show you how you can rearrange applications on iPhone OS 3.1 using iTunes 9.
Note: Make sure you install the iPhone 3.1 update and iTunes 9.
How to Organize applications on your iPhone or iPod Touch home screen using iTunes 9.0
1. Connect your device to your computer and launch the iTunes 9.0 application.

2. Click the Applications tab.

3. Click and checkmark the Sync Applications box. If you don’t want any application synced to your device simply uncheck it from the list and it won’t be added. iTunes 9.0 also gives you the option of sorting the applications by category, name, or date and lets you search as well.
4. On the right of the Sync Applications box you’ll see your iPhone or iPod Touche’s homescreen. Rearrange the icons the way you want it. You can drag icons up and down, left or right, or even drag them to another home screen. The square boxes on the far right well show you the different home screen pages that you can add/rearrange icons to. Just click on “1″ if you want an app on the first home screen, “2″ if you want it on the second”, and so on. It’s that easy!

5. Once you’ve rearranged the icons the way you want them, click on the Sync button on the bottom right corner.
6. iTunes will now start syncing the applications the way you arranged them on iTuness to your iPhone or iPod Touch. A Sync in Progress message will appear on your device. Once iTunes is done syncing, your applications will appear on your device!
I really like this feature about iPhone 3.1. Thank you for finally listening to us and bringing us this feature to iTunes 9 Apple!

Hmmm so you have to update to use it… Ahh okay…
Do you think this will work when the Jailbreak is released??
Dont upgrade to 3.1 is a trap. Automatically diseables tethering and mms. And i try to downgrade. There is no way back!!!
Umm couldnt you allready do this with out a computer?
You cant activate tethering with pc mac or on help.benm.at
this feature doesn’t seem to work on a jailbroken phone. No surprise. Use Movement instead…google “movement iphone”
when I plug in my iPhone I don’t get the arrange window based on my phone. I’ve synced it and still nothing. I have iTunes 9 and 3.1 for my phone. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Yeah I don’t seem to see the arrange window either. Only the sync apps part. My guess is that it will only work with 3.1? Can anyone confirm.
This feature only works on 3.1 and iTunes 9.
this feature is seriously ‘effed’ up. Have had problems with it not syncing or skipping over apps, thereby removing them from my phone. Have tried checking/unchecking, authorizing/deauthorizing, rebooting, resyncing, nothing seems to work right. Of the approx. 100 apps. I *should* have on my iPhone, I only have about half that because the application feature will not load them all onto my phone. VERY ANNOYING.
Happening to me too!
Do you think someone will release a patch for the 5-column springboard/custom dock? If not, this may not be helpful for most of the jailbreaking community…
My Iphone has been unlocked/jailbroken, will the update from 3.0 to 3.1 vers. affect the unlock/ jailbrake?
Why not just use pdanet for tethering? Works great and no cables needed as it turns your phone essentially into a wireless router.
This is evidence of how lazy most of the world has become. You’ve been able to arrange Icons since the very first iPhone 2G but this latest change excites everyone?
Try using your finger through the screens. Isn’t exactly hard work. 2 mins and you’re done. It would take twice as long to boot up your PC/Laptop, log into iTunes, rearrange icons and then sync rather than just adjusting them “manually” the old fashioned way.
So what? just because you know how to, doesn’t mean everyone else does

wow, your life must sucks! please dont ever come here again. this is how lazy you are to seek a review, go and review it you self just but and test it.. it only took 2 mins.
Ok I did the update and everything looks fine.. Just that when I open safari it won’t load so I got exit and open it again that happens with some of my apps too like myspace! It shows the loading logo on the status bar but it just doesn’t f….n load stupid update. Using a 3gs iPhone!! Doe anyone have the same problem???
This feature is amazing, as to the moron who wants everything the old fashion way, this isn’t for the lazy, it justakes rearranging easier…as for those who are having issues with tethering, pdanet will not work if u update to iTunes 9, don’t know why, it just doesn’t…
But I think I’m going to keep my iPhone unjailbroken for a while…jailbreak is starting to lag my iPhone….too many things loaded…I’ll wait till redsn0w comes out with a 3.1 jb…I want my irealsms quick reply back….that’s really all I want
so i have a ipod touch – where i’ve installed lotsa apps, i did not bother to check sync apps at all to save the time in needless syncing (i mean i have backups tho)
so now after installing itunes 9 and OS 3.1.1 i wanted to rearrage the apps (the new feature)
at the applications tab, everything is greyed out , so i check the sync apps check box, now it says it will sync all my apps FROM itunes TO ipod touch .. aaarrgh . i dont want that .. no reverse sync possible?????
am i missing something
Did this get sorted? I have the same question.
Cheers.
I have the exact same issue as Techy, using iphone 3g with OS 3.1.2 and the latest itunes (i think it’s version 9). Anyone have any ideas??
aminpro, your an idiot, a true gimp.
can anyone confirm whether or not itunes 9 bricks the iphone 3G?
wen I plug into iTunes 9 with five column spring board it changes my springboar. wen I try to unistall FCSB I get a mobile substrate error two actually (1) & (134). any ideas Guys
