Enable MMS on AT&T iPhone 3G 3.1 or iPhone 3GS 3.1

In just 4 more days AT&T will issue a software update which will allow iPhone 3G/3GS users to use MMS for free. AT&T originally planned on enabling MMS for iPhone users earlier, but they had to delay it because they wanted to make sure their network would be able to handle all the MMS traffic. In this post I will show you how you can enable MMS on your iPhone 3G/3GS on iPhone 3.1 firmware right now. All credit goes to Aaron Krill for this.
Note: I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device as a result of following this tutorial. Performing this hack may void your iPhone’s warranty. If this does not work then just wait until September 25, AT&T will issue a free update that allows you to enable it. If you get a red exclamation mark after following this tutorial, then that means you’ll just need to wait for AT&T to officially release MMS.
Enable MMS on AT&T iPhone 3G/3GS using Mac

1. If you have iTunes open, then right-click and click Quit to close iTunes.

2. Go to Applications -> Utilities and open the Terminal application.

3. Copy and paste the following command in to Terminal: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

4. Press Return on your keyboard.

5. Download IPCC file (right click this link and save it as ATT_US.ipcc).

6. Connect your iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS to your computer and open iTunes.

7. Press Option on your keyboard and at the same time click on Update in the iTunes window.

8. Locate your ATT_US.ipcc file you downloaded in step 5 and click Choose.
9. Time to reboot your iPhone. Hold down the top button of your iPhone until the “slide to turn off” message appears, slide and turn your iPhone off. Turn your iPhone on again and it should have MMS on it!

IT WORKED. BUT NOT AT FIRST BUT IT SERIOUSLY WORKS
it doesn’t work on windows. can’t find file after the Hold shift and click update procedure. Any ideas?
Yeah the new Itunes 9.0 disabled ICCP file upload. You can only search or upload IPSW files… =( DAMN
There is a drop down in the file select. Chose IPCC files and there it is.
There’s no IPCC file option when I shift click. Lame.
im having trouble trying to get this update how do you get it?
worked first try!! Yessir!! bought god damn time ATT!!!
i tried this and the ipcc updated and i rebooted by phone, but still no mms… i even did a full restore of my phone and repeated procedure with no luck…. the About section states the carrier file is AT&T 5.0 and there is no option in Settings>Messages to enable MMS as there was in 3.0 beta 4 and below. Can’t figure out why everybody else can get this to work and i can’t… it’s a pretty simple patch… i guess my phone is cursed!
Worked right off. Noticed the title mentions OS 3.1 I am running OS 3.0 and have no issues with it..
Cheers and thanks for the advanced leak.. :D
doesn’t work for me I have everything set correctly but it just won’t send or receive anything
Where do I go to find the check upddate button in itunes? I keep clicking on the dropdown help menu hitting the shift key and the check for updates button on that but nothing. I also do it at the iphone screen and it brings up the 3.1 update which I am not going to do yet because there is no jailbreak version on windows yet. Just an FYI I am using itunes 9.1 any help would be great thanks in advance
Seemed to work at first, but picture won’t finish sending. gets right up to the end and stops. Won’t go through. Help please.
great job on this one…. worked first time…..Thanks
Did your mms actually go through? Mine stops right before the picture gets sent and asks if I want to try again.
Worked the first try. Although, I had to click the “Check for update” button at the same time as I was holding the “option” button down. I was looking for the update button for the longest time. =P
did anyone else’s caps lock go away?? it worked for me on windows…but i noticed that i cant do caps lock anymore. and i dont have the option to enable it either…
I did everything and I can now see the MMS option on my texts, but it wont allow me to send or recieve any MMS.. it just fails to send everytime and i can get any MMS from friends..
any ideas?
Mine didnt work when i was on wifi, but it worked over the 3g network.
Thanks for the tip. I will try that. wifi was on.
That still didn’t work for me :(
Yes, when it’s Wi Fi enabled it doesn’t work for me. (iPhone 3GS on a Mac) Maybe the official patch will work with WiFi on.
My MMS was working the last few days and quite tonight. Went back threw the steps and now it only works on 3G not WiFi anymore. Whats Up? is this the way its going to be tomorrow?
Worked for me, just had to disconnect from my wifi… hope they get that fixed.
worked for me! followed instructions to a t. just takes a little while for the pic to send through cause of the file size. be patient and it’ll go.
Didnt work for me either till i turned off my wifi….but it doesnt work on Edge though, no need for 3G
correction: it DOES work on edge..sorry
it worked first time
It works with new itunes released on the 25th of sept. i guess they unlocked that search feature.
Worked great. Did it on my 3G 3.0 running the BenM tethering patch and now have MMS and Tethering. Finally, the best of both worlds.
Thank you!
Matt
This is quite simple, you phone doesn’t need to be jail broken at all. for windows simply copy the text in the command prompt. After, download the file (save it to the desktop, much easier to find). After, open up iTunes, plug the blasted thing in and in the iPhone menu on iTunes, shift click the “Check for update” button, it’ll ask you search for a file. Go the desktop and find the file. click it and let it update. It will say something about updating the carrier settings. after, reboot the phone.
Next thing is to go into your settings (I had to experiment with this myself. My phone has been jail broken numerous times)General, Network, Cellular Data network and under MMS, for the APN enter “wap.cingular” without the quotations. after that open up the messages app and it should be there! Let me know if you have any questions. I’ll help anyway I can.
Worked flawlessly – thanks! although i did have it on 3.1 but my fiance’s iPhone was running 3.0 and it runs great now. thanks again.
Update. I did the 3.1 update and it failed alot of things spent alot of time. so i am back running this.
and with the wi-fi off it runs like a dream. Just got to remember haha.
but now both phones are running the 3.0.1 update with both the BenM tether and this.
