Enable iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS MMS Update through iTunes

Today iPhone users in USA will finally get MMS! AT&T will issue a carrier update through iTunes 9.0.1. In this post I will show you how you can get the MMS update on your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS once it’s out.
This is not a firmware update, it’s a carrier update so you will be able to download and enable MMS quickly on your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS.
How to enable MMS through iTunes
1. Download iTunes 9.0.1 (if you don’t already have it).
2. Connect your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS to your computer and open iTunes.
3. Once the iPhone MMS update is available, you will see the following message on iTunes: “An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to install it now?“. Click “Update Settings“.
4. After you click “Update Settings“, iTunes will show the following message: “Your iPhone carrier settings were updated successfully“. Click “Ok“.
5. Reboot your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS. Hold down your power button until the Slide to Power off button appears, slide to power off. When your iPhone is off, press the power button to turn it on again.
You should now have MMS on your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS!
Note: This won’t work on the iPhone 2G.

Will this work for a jailbroken 3gs still on 3.0 or will I have to update to 3.1?

Jailbroken iPhone 3G 3.1, will the update of the carrier settings disrupt anything because of the jailbreak?
Yea, the carrier update works through 3.0, 3.0.1, & 3.1
There won’t be any issues with the newest version of iTunes and 3.0??

Is there any way to apply the new carrier settings on a 3.0 FW? and if not can 3.1 be jailbroken yet? need details for the jailbreaking crowd.. that was the vanilla article that might as well have come from apple themself.
Lol. There is a hack through sinfuliphone to enable 2G MMS.
Will this new carrier file disable any tethering hack? The 3.1 OS did, and I downgraded back to 3.0.1 and was able to keep tethering. I will download the new carrier file to get MMS (as long as it does not disable tethering) while still holding off on the 3.1 update if possible. Does anyone know details about this?
it wil work through any iTunes. also will work for jailbroken.
Didn’t work for me w/ jb 3.1 (not unlocked) and iTunes 9:
“iTunes could not update the carrier settings on your iPhone. An unknown error occured (0xE800003D).
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later.”
Still doesn’t work after rebooting. Annoying!

It works. My 3g rebooted and now I have mms. OMG!!
Also updated mine and mms is enabled now. I sent a picture and it went through, but when I tried to email it back with a picture, it failed. I’ll keep trying diff ways.
On 3Gs v3.01 – jailbroken. Running iTunes 9.01. When I connect iphone, I do not get prompted about updated carrier settings. Thoughts? thanks.
Debone…is ur iPhone jailbroken? If not it should come thru like a text message the same way it’s sent. If it’s jailbroken I’m not sure how that would affect it.
I just DL the 9.0.1 iTunes and everything is working but it doesnt have the carrier update yet anybody have any ideas, im on 3.0.1 jailbroken but my 3gs is connecting with itunes
