MMS iPhone 3G/3GS date announced by AT&T

MMS iPhone AT&T

In a press release today AT&T has announced that the iPhone 3G/3GS will finally be getting Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) support. Many iPhone users have been waiting impatiently for this, and AT&T has finally announced a release date.

AT&T says that MMS will be coming to the iPhone 3G/3GS on September 25 through a free software update. That means the iPhone 3.1 update will not support MMS, because it’s rumored to launch on September 9, the same day the iPod Touch 3rd generation is announced by Apple. Apple will probably issue the MMS update in an iPhone 3.1.1 update.

Ridiculous that’s it’s taken this long. Stupid for not having developed the capability and support when the iPhone was orginally released.

I think what everyone is forgetting is that there has been no mention if it is going to be free or if there is going to be additional charges. Judging from other phone text messaging plans that AT&T sells, there will be additional charges to use the service.

Well …… About time ! I guess those fuc***’s at at&t finally got their sh** together ! They will probably be asses and charge for it though since they have numerous lawsuits from this whole mms thing ? I doubt anyone will win those cases since they are going to have it ready before the end of summer like they said . I guess we will have to wait and see ? I still say fu** at&t !

Any word from AT&T concerning tethering? I remember earllier this summer mms and tethering were lumped together as features of the 3.0 update that wouldn’t be releasednon America until the end of the summer because, AT&T needed to increase their network or something to that affect. I honestly didn’t expect them to hold out until September 25.

You know those f***ers are going to charge us just to be asses. For people trying to sue them over it.

  15. Jacoahalls says:

I mean this is great in all. I would be happy and what not but I mean I have had mms and tethering on my AT&T iPhone 3gs for about a month in a half now. But way to go AT&T you finally pulling around!

  16. James says:

Rob, this question is for Rob who left the post, how did you enable mms?

  17. Dimon says:

AT&T will NOT charge extra for MMS. It’s going to be part of your text package, if you have it already. I really hope AT&T’s network can handle such a huge traffic increase when they launch MMS. Tethering won’t be enabled for a while though… Not until next year.

  18. TAGVoar says:

I believe there are going to be additional charges, as my friend who works at AT&T says they plan to attach it to the “iPhone” package for an extra 5$, making it a total of 35$ just to use the iPhone, plus everything else (minutes, text messages, etc…) In addition, you can get a plan to make your iPhone into an AirCard for your laptop, however, that is another 30$, and only works everywere by the USA… Thanks for the huge Fail AT&T.

  19. Justin says:

The good news is AT&T is already turning it on, you just need 3.1 or the right carrier file hacked in. So far it seems the southeast is good to go and can confirm it works for me in Miami.

Because it’s already working now I think that 3.1 is going to come out on the 25th. Also, I don’t think Apple would release 3.1 and then 2 weeks later have their customers have to download a carrier file update.

I thought Apple would be releasing a 3.1 update in September 9 along with the new iPod Touch, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

It’s about damn time, said the guy who’s had every generation & has been patiently wait’n. Now will redsn0w work on the new 3.1.1 update?
