In a press release today AT&T has announced that the iPhone 3G/3GS will finally be getting Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) support. Many iPhone users have been waiting impatiently for this, and AT&T has finally announced a release date.
AT&T says that MMS will be coming to the iPhone 3G/3GS on September 25 through a free software update. That means the iPhone 3.1 update will not support MMS, because it’s rumored to launch on September 9, the same day the iPod Touch 3rd generation is announced by Apple. Apple will probably issue the MMS update in an iPhone 3.1.1 update.

really..?? sept 25?? its no longer summer at that point. … they said end of summer, not after summer. I didnt think they’d wait to the last effing minute. its no wonder apple and att keep getting sued. altho the mms thing probably isnt apples fault, but still. att knew this was coming they shoulda started working on it a LONG TIME AGO! im glad people are suing :)
First off I work for Att secondly these posts show Once again that people believe what they want to. Att did not provision mms because apple did not support it. Then they launch the 3gs and decide that it is time. World wide the only had to provision for the new product not the priors. Now with several million iPhone that did not support the feature it was never built in. So in order to provision correctly it takes time. We learned if the release when the rest if the world did and could not have 1/3 of our iPhone customers able to do something and not the others. So now that we finally have the feature provisioned and will allow all 3g and 3gs models up and running by the 25th is an accomplishment. So quit crying and enjoy the cheap porn your buddy is gonna send you.
Wow you need to represent better for an AT&T Employee. Your grammar and your message structure were atrocious. Have some pride in your company.
Mr AT&T,
First off, let me remind you that jailbroken phones have been able to enjoy native MMS since about a week after the 3.0 launch. Therefore, there was and/or is a way to provision the phone for MMS. I personally don’t appreciate your companys attitude of “We will have it out this summer… Maybe… If we feel like it…” Especially when there has been an almost perfect way of doing it for months. Having it up by the 25th isn’t an accomplishment, its a disgrace to your paying customers. Maybe if you had it up by June 25th it would have been at least good business practice.
I don’t really think it’s an issue that MMS is being released the 25th.
My only guess is that AT&T couldn’t handle iPhone MMS with their infrastructure. Upgrades probably needed to be made to accommodate the iPhone and it’s user’s unlimited data-plan.
This is a great-step for AT&T to be able to handle this.
Sure mmms was out in the 5.0 but by trying that little work-around with the sim card swapping and etc… it would disable vvm so at&t needed to re-configure the carrier file correctly for the iphone b/c im sure we were using the carrier file for a non smartphone! stop complaining its only 10 days away! :D
I have a 3g running 3.0.1. I have the tethering hack and use it daily. I want to be able to mms but teatherinh is more important. Any ideas?
