Tired of the default iPod Touch or iPhone theme? Want a nice looking theme for your iPod Touch or iPhone? Get Whitoken! You have to jailbreak to get this theme, but it's totally worth it. See a screenshot of this theme below. As you can see it looks very nice on the iPod Touch/iPhone. This theme was created by 6mik-design.
In this post I will show you how you can get this theme on your iPod Touch or iPhone.
You will need to first jailbreak, then install WinterBoard, and then add additional applications in order to install this theme. I will guide you through the process.
In this part I will show you how to jailbreak and install Cydia on your iPod Touch/iPhone.
1. Download redsn0w, and check our guide on how to jailbreak your iPod Touch or jailbreak your iPhone.
2. You should see the above Cydia icon on your homescreen. Tap the Cydia icon.
3. When Cydia first launches it will ask you to choose what mode you want to use. Just tap User (Graphical Only). You can go back and change this later if you wish to.
4. Cydia will now check for updates and present you with the above prompt saying something like 2 Essential Upgrades. Tap the "Upgrade Essential" button.
5. Now Cydia will ask you to confirm your selection. Tap the Confirm button in the top right.
6. Cydia will now start updating. Once the update is complete it will show a "Complete" message. You will need to restart Cydia, tap the Close Cydia (Restart) button.
This is the second part. You will now be installing WinterBoard. WinterBoard is an application that allows you to customize the design of your iPhone and iPod Touch. It's created by Saurik.
1. Tap the Cydia icon to launch Cydia.
2. Tap the Search icon on the bottom right and type in WinterBoard in the top search box.
3. Once you see WinterBoard in your search results, tap it.
4. Once you get to the WinterBoard package, tap the Install button on the top right.
5. Tap the confirm button on the top right to confirm your install.
6. Once WinterBoard is installed, you'll need to tap the "Reboot Device" button to reboot your device.
7. Congratulations, WinterBoard is now installed on your device. You should see the following icon labelled WinterBoard on your device once it restarts.
The Whitoken theme requires you to download additional applications from Cydia. By default Cydia already has all the repositories you need, except for the Touch-Mania repository which is required for this theme. Adding a repository is simple, and I will show you how to do it in this page.
1. Open Cydia.
2. Tap the Manage tab. Once you get there, tap the Sources button in the middle.
3. You should now see a listing of all the sources you have. Tap the Edit button in the top right.
4. After tapping the Edit button, tap the Add button and type enter the following Cydia/APT URL: http://cydia.touch-mania.com/. After typing, press the Add button. Cydia will now add the Cydia/APT URL you entered.
5. Once Cydia has added the repository, it will say Complete. Tap the Return to Cydia button once you see this message.
You need to install additional applications from Cydia to get the Whitoken theme to work. The following applications must be installed:
Here is how to install these applications:

8. Tap the Search tab again and type in Five Column Springboard, tap the Five Column Springboard package in the search results. Tap the Install button on the top right, and then tap the Cancel/Queue button on the top left. Tap the Continue Queuing button.
9. Tap the Search tab again and type in FiveIRows GUI, tap the FiveIRow GUI package in the search results. tap the Install button on the top right, and then tap the Cancel/Queue button on the top left. Tap the Continue Queuing button.
10. Tap the Search tab again and type in SpringJumps, tap the SpringJumps package in the search results. tap the Install button on the top right, and then tap the Cancel/Queue button on the top left. Tap the Continue Queuing button.
11. Tap the Search tab again and type in OpenSSH, tap the OpenSSH package in the search results. tap the Install button on the top right, and then tap the Cancel/Queue button on the top left. Tap the Continue Queuing button.
12. Tap the Manage tab and then tap the Queue button in the top right.
13. Tap the Confirm button on the top right to install all the applications.
14. The required applications for the Whitoken theme have now been installed! Take a break and lets continue to the next page.
You need to create 4 categories for your iPhones using the Categories application. This post will show you how to do this.
1. Find the Categories application and tap it.
2. An about message will pop up. Just tap the OK button.
3. Tap the Add button in the top right corner.
4. Type in Home and tap Add.
5. A screen titled Icon For: Home will come up, chose any icon and tap on it.
6. You will now see a Folder which says Home (0) on your screen.
7. Tap the Home folder and then tap the Add button on the top right to add applications to the Home category.
8. A Tap to add screen should show up. Tap and add any application you want in to the Home category. This theme will have four applications per page, so do not add applications that you want to appear on your pages in to any folders. There will be a total of 16 applications that you should not put in to any folder. Here is an example list of applications you should not add:
9. Tap the Done button on the top left once you are done. Another screen will show up asking you to confirm your apps, if you added the right ones then tap Done.
10. Now you should be back at the Categories home screen. The Home folder should say Home(x), where x is the number of apps you have in this folder.
11. It's time to create the other folders. I'm just going to tell you what folders to create below, make sure you add every application in them except for 4 applications for each category (I listed apps I didn't add in step 8, you can use it as an example. ) . There should be a total of 16 apps that are not added to any folder. Here are the other folders you should add:
12. Once you're done creating the categories and folders, exit the Categories application. Make sure you have only 3 icons on your dock. If you don't then hold down an icon for any application and put it on the dock.
In this part you will need to activate FiveIRows, activate Hidespringdots, and configure the SpringJumps app settings. Read on to find out how to do this.
1. Open the FiveIRows app.
2. Tap FiveIRows and Hide SpringDots so they switch to ON. Once you've done that you can close this app.
3. Open the SpringJumps app.
4. Under Preferences, tap General.
5. Slide the Page titles button to OFF. Make sure Jump Dock is OFF as well. Once you've done that tap the Back button.
6. Under Preferences, tap Jump Icons.
7. Slide the buttons for Pages 4 through 8 to OFF. Leave Pages 0 through 3 ON.
I. Download and install WinSCP on your computer.
2. Make sure your iPod touch/iPhone's WiFi is on and connected to a network. Go to Settings - > WiFi. Tap the arrow of the network you're connected to, and write down your IP address.
3. Open WinSCP. Click the New button on the top right. For Host name, enter in your iPod Touch/iPhone's IP address. For username enter in root and for password enter in alpine. Once you've entered in all this information, click the Save button and then click OK.
4. Click the login button. WinSCP will show "Searching for host..." and "Connecting to host..". After that a window will pop up saying that Host has not answered for more than 15 seconds, just wait. When you SSH for the first time it takes some time for WinSCP to login. Make sure your iPod Touch/iPhone is connected.
5. A Window saying "WARNING - POTENTIAL SECURITY BREACH" will pop up. Just click the Update button.
6. If you're asked for your password, enter alpine and then click OK.
7. Now minimize the WinSCP window, and Download the Whitoken theme. Open the Whitoken ZIP file, and extract all the files to a folder named Whitoken on your Desktop.
8. Go back to WinSCP and on the left hand window locate your Whitoken folder where you extracted all the files.
9. Navigate to /private/var/stash/Applications. Copy all the files named _shortcutx_x.app from the Whitoken folder to this directory.
Now you need to make 44 blank icons on your iPod Touch/iPhone.
1. Open the iBlank app.
2. You need to create 44 blank icons, so click the button "10" 4 times, and then click the button "4" 1 time. You can use whatever combination you want, as long as you end up with 44 blank icons.
3. Now you need to rearrange the blank icons for each page too look like the above images. It will take a while to do it. Hold down the icons and drag them and try to make each page look like the screenshots above.
Finally! This is the last part. You need to apply a setting to each folder you created, then upload the Whitoken theme file using SSH, and then activate the Whitoken theme through Winterboard. Follow these steps below.
1. Tap the Home folder, and then tap the i button in the bottom right corner.
2. Use the settings in the above picture and apply it to each and every folder.
3. SSH in to your device using WinSCP. Upload the Whitoken by6MIK.theme folder from your Whitoken folder to /private/var/stash/Themes.
4. Open the Winterboard app.
5. Tap Whitoken by 6Mik. Also make sure you tap No Undocked Icon Labels and the No Docked Icon Labels.
6. Exit the WinterBoard app and the new theme will be applied. Congratulation, enjoy your new iPod Touch/iPhone theme. You can see how mine looks above. I'll be recreating mine since I didn't arrange my icons the way I wanted to. Remember to thank 6-mikdesign for this, he put a lot of work in to creating this.

I have some problems, one being the spring jump icons, I only have 0-3 on one page, yet you have them on multiple pages, how do I make more of these?
Edit: I have 2 Applications folders in my ipod. One was .pwn and one was . OuXstc the.pwn one was the correct one to put the _shortcut folders in

iPod touch 1G (2.2 latest update) locks up when I install fivelrows gui and now I notice that you have fivelrows no gui listed as well.
Any hints on how to proceed?

I'm getting confused with the folders stuff (Categories app).
In step 8 of part 5 you say "so do not add applications that you want to appear on your pages in to any folders there is" but then in the very next screenshot you show that you've added the exact 4 applications to home that you just said not to add. Now, at first I thought I was just misinterpreting the screenshot. However, in part 8 where you show how to rearrange the icons, on the 1st (phone/home) screen you put the icons for settings, safari, contacts, mail _and_ the home folder, _but_ aren't these icons suppose to be _in_ the home folder? Which is exactly what you show in the last part, but how can they be both in the folder and outside of it?
What am I missing?

I now understand a bit more how this theme works - e.g. categories at the top aren't "dynamic". I wanted to create my own categories (apps, tools, games) but is still shows up media, apps, games :)
I'm gonna have to dig into it and try to figure out how to modify it to suit my needs.
Anyway, great work on this guide. If Apple spent as much effort on creating a flexible skinning system as you did on this tutorial, maybe you wouldn't have to do it.

The reason why the catagpries get renamed and the icons change no matter what u do is the theme has a setting and icon set to the category. So it'll always show up the same. No matter how you configure the name and icon of the category
can someone please help me with this everytime i try to connect with WinSCP it can never connect i tried it over 250 times and it keeps tellin me "network error: network is unreachable" and i put in the ip address that the touch tells me i really want this theme so can someone please help me with it (i am using ipod touch v2 running 3.0)
Did you download and install OpenSSH from Cydia?
On the C-NET video for the iPhone 3GS, I found that around 1:20 the iPhone has a battery percentage thing which you can only get by jailbreaking. See for yourself. The URL is http://cnettv.cnet.com/9745-1_53-212.html?tag=smallCarouselArea.3
In each of those folders there a file called info.plist
I opened that in notepad, and changed the line
jp.ashikase.springjumps3.1
where 3.1 means the 3_1 folder, 3_0 would be 3.0, and so forth

Remember you are going to use SFTP for transfers.
It took a little bit of fiddling, but it can be done.
Don't forget to use alpine as the password and use the IP address from your ipod/iphone (in the settings for your wifi connection.
You can use this to store files in your ipod/iphone as well.
I'm using 3.0 on a ipod touch 2nd gen. and everything worked until i exited winterboard. Half of the icons that were supposed to be there turned invisible (still work to the touch)...and nothing with the theme. Help?

Is there a way to cut out the animation when sliding through pages. Like instead of flowing from one page to another, is there a way to just "jump" when sliding your finger across to the next page?

To replace the icons with your own
ssh into your device
go to
private/var/stash/themes
or var/stash/themes
and select the theme
double click the folder icons
and delete the original one and drag and drop your own icon into the folder
respring your device
(you can do this with sbsettings or unchecking and rechecking the theme in winterboard and then pressing the home button)
your theme will then have your custom icon instead of the one that came with the theme

the icon names ARE case sensitive
for instance. iPod is spelled iPod. Not Ipod.
All the icons except for dTunes. iTunes. iBlank. iPod begin with a capital letter

what i did was delete the shortcut.x.app files from the applications folder, uninstalled springjumps, put the shortcut.x folders back, then reinstalled springjumps.
Hope that helps the other people who have been having this problem
When I click on the iBlank it pops up with just a white screen...I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice...if anyone has any advice I would like to hear it.

It says in the guide that u make the catgories for the iPhone...so does that mean u don't make the categories for the iPod touch

iBlank shows a white screen for a few seconds whenever you open it
regardless of who I stalled it. The only exception would be the iPhone 3GS. Due to a faster processor.
Just give iblank a little time to open. It will start up

After installing, configuring and some tweaking with icons, everything looked perfect on my iPhone. But now when I turn on the phone the Springboard crashes every time and makes a mess of all the icons on my 4 pages.

well, it did work, but it still requires few improvements on the icons, I mean what if someone wants to add different 4 icons to the front page, yes; s/he will be able to do it, but the look wont be as nice as the 4 original picked icons

I use cyberduck to ssh into my iphone and i have 3 application folders. #9 directs you place .app files in that application folder. Copy the same .app folders in the other two application folders as well. TURN OFF YOUR PHONE. When you reboot you will have 3 - 0s, 3 -1s and so on. Make a set for 3 pages. Follow the instructions from there. it took me 4 hours to get this right and it looks tight. I am making a 4th page, and editing the top right icon.

Not sure if this was already answered but to get the SpringJump icons on every page you have to have done the SSH/SFTP steps. You need to have copied the _shortcutx_x.app files out of the 6MIK installer ( http://6mik-design.deviantart.com/art/whitoken-ipod-touch-3-0-theme-133734590 )into /private/var/Applications see step 9. You will also need to do a Respring afterward...if you've SSHed in 'killall SpingBoard' will do that.

Alex, Make sure you follow #6 again. This will remove the original dock
Make sure you copy whitoken folder to all 3 application folders from the SSH
Make sure you copy all your .apps, to all three application folders and make sure you copy Whitoken folder to all three theme folders

You can do this now. I did and i have now have a 4th page.
You will have to duplicate "Sceenshot Page 3. png to make a page 4.png file in the "IPHONE" folder. Place them in ALL 3 stash/Application.... folders
Create _Shortcut3-0,1,2,3,4. Be sure to add 0-4, 1-4, 2-4 right now you only have 0-3 adding 0-4 and so on will add them to each page. Place them in ALL 3 stash/Application.... folders
Add a Page 4. png clear window in the ICON folder. Located in the Whitoken by 6mk.theme folder. Place them in all Theme.....folder Stash/Themes
I have done this and have zip files i could send to everyone. Please please email me at dm@d213.com and ill send you the files and where to place them in more detail.
Copy them in every application folder from the ssh and RESTART YOUR PHONE.
3 sets will show up only when you have rebooted the phone.
EVERYONE!
When you copy the files into your phone. You must disconnect from the SSH and reboot your phone. Meaning, turn off your phone and turn it back on, your 3 sets of shortcutx will show up for you to move them to each page.

on the very last page of all your apps there should be 16 springjumps, 4 of each number 0-3. then put four springjumps on each of your pages. hope that helps

These are the springjump apps you're looking for.
if you use a mac, use cyberduck. there is no winscp in a mac
when you re-arrange icons, try to start from the top left to the bottom right. if you do it where ever you want to, its gonna take forever
you are totally wrong on this. the theme is to look how it is supposed to look, not the way how the icons are placed. thats how every theme is.

k, as i said earlier, if you have put the shortcuts into the correct folder, and it still doesnt work, go into cydia, uninstall, then reinstall springjumps.
problem solved
im having a problem insatlling iBlank, BlankNull etc..... from cydia it keeps telling me " size mitchmatch " when i try to install after i queue all of them up. any suggestions.
If you installed BlankNull first, uninstall it and install iBlank first. then reinstall BlankNull again. That solved my problem.

When i was installing Winterboard, i got to the last part. It said to reboot and i did. Now its just start at the loading screen that you get when you turn on your phone, with the white apple. have any idea whats wrong?
Isn't the problem that we need FOUR sets of shortcuts, not THREE? When I unzip and look in the iphone folder, you've created only 12 .app folders, not 16. If someone who as successfully installed this please provide a proper explanation, that would be great. Thanks.

hi, i installed the theme correctly, everything works fine (except a few icons, i am missing)
in this folder there is the smb prefs theme for whitoken.
but in which folder do i have to put it? (ssh)
sry for doublepost, but i didnt see this problem before.
i got the normal dock of the whitoken theme, but in fron of it there is the original aluminium dock. is there a tweak or something to disable the original dock? it sucks^^
btw, i got an iphone 3gs (maybe this info helps for a solution)
ok this tut is brilliant, but i've got a few questions...
1) Part 4 says you need to download FiveIRows GUI, but i see in the picture that FiveIRows No GUI. I tried installing both, but naturally you can only install one of them. This leads me to my next question...
2) If i install FiveIRows No GUI everything works fine until Part 6, when there is no icon to open up FiveIRows (is there a way to open it anyway?). However, if i install FiveIRows GUI my ipod reboots and stays on the apple logo "bootscreen" for 10-15 minutes, before it reboots again. So which one should i install?

Although the picture shows FiveIRows No GUI, you should be installing FiveIRows GUI. I made a mistake when I was creating the picture. Please follow the written instructions, and it should work for you!
but it doesnt! I've tried this a few times and each time FiveIRows GUI messed up my ipod to an exent that i had to re-jailbreak it.
then i read somewhere that if the iNav theme works then this theme should work as well. i tried iNav and that worked perfectly! it's just the FiveIRows GUI that doesnt work but without that the theme doesnt work (does it?). i'm using an ipod 2g by the way.

Alright I finished doing all this to realize that I didn't really want it. Lol So i changed everything back except SpringJumps doesn't seem to want to leave. I disable the numbers, disable the dock, even uninstall it, but the page number icons are still there! Help please and thanks in advance.
I did everything right until step 8, i got everything organized, but now my video icon has disappeared and the music icon has a question mark on it. Any help?,I'm using an iPod touch on 3.0.
So I finished it, everything works well, the only thing wrong is the Music icon, and the fact that the Video is missing.

So the shortcut icon and apps i have 3 sets of 4. So 12, but it shows in the pictures 4 sets of 4, I followed the instructions line by line yet I dont have enough shorcut apps. What am I missing?

This ais really great. Im just curious WHERE do you did you put the actual "phone" icon??? I mean I think it would be best on the 1st page so that you can see missed calls and be able to press the icon to make a call. I do not see it in any of the examples above. I know I can put it wherever I want I just wonder where you put it! Thanks!

Is there a way to have all of my applications redirected to the folders created through "Categories," or do I just need to suck it up and do it manually. Either way doesn't matter to me. This theme is beautiful and i doubt I will ever change it.

Don't have a program that opens .rar files? Download 7-Zip and unextract the files with it.
I am on a mac, normally the computer automatically unzips any zip file. It just doesn't show up as a zip file. Do you know of a program for macintosh that I could download to try and open it with?
I figured that out as well, haha, I should research before asking questions. The one I do have for certain, the "16" icons that shouldn't be included in the folders is that including the Docked icons?

Like everyone else, I am having the large problem of only having 3 sets of 4 icons instead of all 4. The first three pages, I have everything moved and placed with blank icons but I don't have the 0,1,2,3 icons for the final page. I've moved all the shortcuts to the applications folder, respringed, restarted. Everything. I even tried to create my own but I can't figure out how.
I read something about putting the files into three different application folders but I can't find anymore. Has ANYONE found a legitimate solution to this obviously large problem?

Before a lot of these smart jailbreak programs came out you had go in and change folder properties and shit using ssh.
Oh and custom keyboards dont work in 3.0 and above.
Custom keyboard sounds do though.

This is misleading. iPhones do not have "Music" and "Video" apps they have an iPod app. So this obviously wasn't made for iPhone.

After i downloaded the "FiveIRow GUI" it prompted me 2 restart my iPod touch, when my ipod restarted, it just shows the apple icon and its been like that ever since, i cannot shot down my ipod, nd it ran down my battery, when i recharged it, the same thing happens, it just shows the apple icon nd notin else. To fix the problem with the 0123 on every page:
The part where you used the WinSCP, and moved all those folders over, that was creating more of the same buttons. Now all you have to do is restart your machine and you will have them all!
How am i supposed to open the FiveIRows if there is no icon to open it?
for those who couldnt get more springjumps icons, try to read in detail installation guide part 7 no. 9. Guess u missed that one part.
@matt : u need to install fiveirows GUI, not the non GUI one to change the settings.
Simply amazing. Took a while to set up properly, but I did not run into any problems (just make sure you reboot after the first SSH session so all the shortcut arrows are there).
Now I just have to maintain the whole thing, make sure I keep things organized every time I install a new app or game. But that's ok.

i tried this with a 3g ipod touch. it said reboot wen i installed it then it said hook up to itunes and restore i did this several times and it did not get me winterboard. it just made me restore my ipod
Have you downloaded open ssh from cydia? If so then make sure its turned on :)
