While I was surfing the web, I noticed some really shocking news. Sprint Executive, Tom Murphy, vice President of corporate marketing brand for Sprint, was killed in a car accident on Friday.
While he and his family were driving in Colorado a boulder crashed through the windshield of his car and killed him. His son Ethan also faced moderate injuries.
Both Murphy and his son were taken to the Valley View Hospital in Colorado where he was pronounced dead. His 11-year old survived and is in stable condition. Sgt. Rich Armstrong, the public information officer for the patrol in Garfield, Pitkin and Eagle countie, said that this is the first fatality involving a rock striking a vehicle but such accidents happen regularly in Colorado.
Sprint issued the following statement:
“The employees of Sprint are deeply saddened on the death of Tom Murphy. Cheerful and enthusiastic, he was a highly effective marketing advocate for Sprint and a beloved member of Sprint’s NASCAR team.”
NASCAR officials also issued a statement:
“First, our thoughts and prayers go out to Tom’s family and friends. Tom’s enthusiasm and spirit will be missed not only at Kansas Speedway and in the racing community, but by everyone he touched. Tom wasa leader in the Kansas City community, and this is a devastating loss to us all.”
You can read more about this unfortunate accident at the Kansas City Star, and the Denver Post.

I am a family member of Tom’s and am stunned about how insensitive people can be. It is perfectly fine if you don’t care about his death, but don’t post it, especially on a site his family and kids could possibly read. Have a little compassion.
Like your doing right now???
