Jailbreak iPhone 3.0.1

The iPhone 3.0.1 update was recently released. If you want to jailbreak any iPhone running on  iPhone OS 3.0.1, you must use redsn0w 0.8. This post will show a step-by-step tutorial on how to jailbreak iPhone 3.0.1 with redsn0w.

Note:

  1. redsn0w only recognizes iPhone 3.0 firmware (not 3.0.1 yet!), although you are running firmware 3.0.1 you must still download iPhone OS 3.0 firmware for your device.
  2. The recent iPhone 3.0.1 update does not fix the iPhone 3GS hole, so it’s safe for iPhone 3GS users to update. If you downloaded a purplera1nday file or your iBec or iBSS for iPhone 3GS you don’t need to redownload it because it’s identical in this update.

First you must download redsn0w for Windows, Mac, or Linux from here.

redsn0w 0.8 works for Phone 3.0.1, iPhone 3G 3.0.1, iPhone 3GS 3.0.1, iPod Touch 3.0, and iPod Touch 2G 3.0.

1. Download the iPhone OS 3.0 IPSW file for your device and save it to your desktop. Here are the file names for each device, make sure you have the right one:

  • iPhone 2G – filename: iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw [download link]
  • iPhone 3G – filename: iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw [download link]
  • iPhone 3GS – filename: iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw [download link]

2. Open the redsn0w 0.8 application to jailbreak iPhone 3.0.1.

3. Click the Browse button.redsn0w browse

4. Locate your device’s IPSW file that you downloaded in step 1 and click Open.

Browse for IPSW

5. The redsn0w window will have the “IPSW successfully identified” message. Click the Next button to continue.

IPSW Successfully Identified

6. redsn0w will ask you to “Please select which options you would like to have“. Make sure the Install Cydia box has a check mark and then click Next.

redsn0w select options

7. redsn0w will ask you to make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to your computer. Make sure you plug in your device in to your computer and then turn it off. Click Next once you have done this.

redsn0w - Make sure your devices is OFF and PLUGGED IN

8. redsn0w will now ask you to connect your device in DFU mode, you must do this properly to jailbreak iPhone 3.0.1.

  1. Hold down the Power button for 3 seconds
  2. Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (bottom center button) for 10 seconds
  3. Without releasing the Home button, release the Power button BUT KEEP holding the Home button for 30 seconds
  • If you don’t do this properly you will get a DFU Mode Failed message and you’ll have to go back to step one.

redsn0w DFU Mode

9. Once your device has successfully entered DFU Mode, redsn0w will show the following message: “Please wait while your device is being jailbroken. Waiting for reboot.” Your device should reboot after this. If redsn0w is stuck on Waiting to Reboot, unplug your USB cable quickly and plug it back in. The jailbreaking process should continue after tha.

10. Once your device has rebooted redsn0w will start uploading the RAMDisk and kernel.

11. After everything has been successfully uploaded to your device, redsn0w will have; the “Done!” message. Your device will now reboot and you should see the Cydia app on your SpringBoard. Your iPhone is now jailbroken!

    SUCCESS YES YES YES.
iphone 2g got locked due to 3.1 update. i got it to work perfectly by following a guy named manu’s advice, which was posted in a forum. i have given it below:

Hey everyone, I managed to get myself out of it, by DOWNGRADING to 3.0!! (reminder: I was locked due to a “forced” upgrade to 3.1.) This is how I did: entered DFU Mode with iTunes on; clicked “restore” WHILE HOLDING SHIFT (on a Windows PC); then chose the ANCIENT .ipsw file (v 3.0); then immediately used RedSn0w 0.8 to jailbreak & unlock, referring to the same .ipsw — I’ve been quite happy to see the little pineapple again! Right now iTunes is restoring my iPhone from the last backup but it WORKS, i’ve been able to make a call already… Hope this will help! Cheer up and good luck!!!

Damn, that worked first time, after trying a few different methods. Thanks apoorv.

I did everything that was told and it completed every step like it said it would. I couldn’t find Cydia anywhere on my phone and I can’t tell anything different then the way it was before I did this. Why is this?

  9. benzboy1 says:

Where can i find the 3.0 when the thing pops up after i hold option? is it the iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw i downloaded?

  10. shane says:

ok i have done everything that its asking me to do here i get to the point where it is telling me that jailbreaking is dowloading(take ten mins) then it will just go back to the apple logo and everything will be the exact same any help people?

  11. Adi says:

The jailbreak and unlock worked on my iPhone 2G but once I put my Sim in it the battery goes from 100% to 0 in about 9 hours even if I don’t touch the pgone at all!

When I remove the sim I could play music for about 28hours non stop on one charge…

Is the jailbreak draining the battery? Did anybody else have the same issue?

  12. Rasta says:

    works perfect!
i used the redsn0w program for the iphone 3g 3.0.1 firmware, followed the instructions step-by-step, and i DID recieve a message saying the program encountered an error, asking me whether or not to send the error report, i didn’t click anything and the redsn0w program continued and jailbroke my iphone.

    works well!

  13. matty says:

My phone stays on a black backlit screen during the jail break, and after. It will freeze on that till i hit the power button
I have the 3gs with the latest firmware 3.1.2 or something, only updated today, but i tried it also with the previous firm ware as well, same issue. any ideas?

  14. happily pineappled says:

Follow the instructions here. Read twice before you start. Everything is correct. Double-check that you’re using the 3.0 ipsw file to do this.

TIP: Don’t release the home button until the iPhone says it’s done, even though redsn0w says to hold for only 30 seconds. Just keep holding it through the steps. At last you’ll see the pineapple, and finally the message that it’s done.

  15. matty says:

thanks, but i just tried that.
i am using the firmware iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore. but it still stays on the lit black screen. i held the home button down till the program said DONE!. but it still didnt work lol. i dunno why. any other hints? i tried to re download red snow and the patch. but still no progress.

  16. matty says:

purple rain keeps popping up a message saying
“the program has stopped working” then it closes….

  17. kaanudo says:

What a master piece unlocker & upgrader… just unlocked 2 phones with in 9 minutes… simple and easy to use as compared to Winpwn and Quickpwn… Works great for new firmwares above 1,1.3.0 in IPHONE 2G..

    Very Thank Full To Developer..

  18. matty says:

  19. matty says:

  20. alex says:

Hi! I have an iphone that is already unlocked and jailbroken with cydia. I only have 2.2 firmware. I want to update so I can get newer apps, etc. Should I just lock my phone by updating, then try to relock it? I didn’t unlock it the first time and I don’t know how, should I just leave it alone or try?
