Hans Christian Ørsted: Google Doodle

Other | Hans | August 14, 2009 at 2:01 am

While I was browsing Google today I noticed Google had a new logo (also known as a Google Doodle) on their homepage. They made this logo to recognize hans-christian-c3b8rstedthe birthday of Hans Christian Ørsted. Ørsted was a physicist, chemist, and also a poet, but he was best known for his discovery of electromagnetism. If you want you can find out more about Hans Christian Ørsted you can go to the Google homepage and click the logo.

I wanted to make this post here to make a suggestion to Google (if anyone from Google is reading this). In the future, please make the Google Doodle logo’s available on the mobile versions of Google as well! I was visiting Google on my iPhone and the Google Doodle logo did not appear there. I had to view Google in “Classic” mode to see the logo.

No Google Doodle

Here is the Google logo for Hans Christian Ørsted, in case you miss it:

hans-christian-Ørsted
Update: Many people seem to be confusing Hans Christian Ørsted with Hans Christian Andersen. Ørsted is a scientist and Andersen is a novelist.

@ElGatoGrande… you clearly missed the point of my post… and no I’m not American, if you got stupid laws… question your own ppl!
I can only hope next time, you keep your comments to yourself or at least understand what’s been said before you comment.

I’ll repeat for those who didn’t get what I was trying to say…
I DO know what an electro-magnet is, I didn’t go through engineering university like a bum… All I was trying to sayis that on a FIRST IMPRESSION, it looked like an explosive device… you don’t have to hang me and the other ppl who thought the same!

On first glance, I thought the same thing, and finally clicked on the logo to see if I could get more information.

  4. Wendy says:

I agree – also on iGoogle. I had to view in classic mode too.

It might not be a bomb, but at first glance and in this day and age that is certainly what comes to mind. I wondered at first if I’d been misdirected to a site I didn’t want to visit…It’s important to remember that no matter how beautiful an illustration may be, or how well intentioned the thought behind it, there should always be many sets of eyes looking at it who are not close to it. This is done just to make sure it reads as it was intended. I think this one fails, it reads as an explosive device to more than one of us…and it’s a little scary looking.

I also thought at very first glance it was a bomb until I saw that it was a compass and not a clock. THEN I knew immediately that it was an electromagnet, having made them when I was a kid and later, with my daughter. I love the doodle, but if the compass was a bit larger, I think there would be less confusion.

Thanks for the doodle. I had never heard of this scientist–or if I had, I did not pay attention. I love all your doodles and tell everyone when I come across one. Thanks again. A.

I think this google doodle is on googles part showing a lack of good judgement skills. This thing clearly looks like a bomb, and in this day and age publishing things that have any simularity to an explosive devise is just down right rude. Shame on you google.

  9. Nikhil says:

Well Hard work on the quality of Advertisment and keeping the browsing interest alive of billions .. this what google do best ..

  10. Diamondshark says:

Ah man. It’s so funny that you guys posted this cause I was just thinking about this today. I saw the doodle on my desktop, but I didn’t even realize that google mobile didn’t have it. :-( PLEASE FIX THIS GOOGLE!!!! :-)

  11. Carole says:

I agree–this google doodle isn’t very good as so many people are mistaking it for Google Bomb Making Day.
Had to hun about to find out what it really was.

  12. Steve says:

Obviously NOT a bomb – only one wire. EVERYONE knows bombs have a red wire and a blue wire. The question is which one do you cut….

  13. John Tod says:

A bomb! What would Google be doing showing a doodle bomb. Grow up.

  14. Roger says:

The logo could be put to better use. Not many poeple take notice, only a third of the world population see it and understands it!

  15. Hans Christian Ørsted says:

hey guys, glad you remember me

  16. Luis says:

    why that logo anyway?
