After looking through the comments on the iPhone 3.0.1 jailbreak and unlock post, it looks like many people appear to be having a problem where
the redsn0w program is stuck on the "Waiting for Reboot" screen.
Here is a fix for this:
Thanks to dococ for the tip!

Here is a fix for this:
- Unplug your USB quickly and then plug it back in. Your iPhone will reboot and the jailbreaking process will continue.

Hi, i also had anothe problem that maybe it's because i'm a little inexperienced. what happened is that i managed to go through the whole process of jailbreak with 3.0.1 apparently with no problems at all, but when the iphone restarted it said "no sim", i looked everywhere, and as i didn't find anything useful i restored the iphone to OS 3.0, after that it now says that the iphone needs to be activated via itunes, i try to do that but it says the sim card is either a wrong sim or it's locked. i try the sim in another phone i've got and again it doesn't recognize it. conclusion i did something that damaged the sim card, why could it be?? do i have to take the sim out to jailbreak or is there something else i'm doing wrong?
Beautiful tip.
It totally did the job for me.
Thanks !
wow, thanks a lot!
it worked great! :D
how can someone that knows how to jailbreak their iphone but DONT know a thing about ultrasn0w/unlocking them??? its friggin ridiculous! redsn0w and ultrasn0w goes together!
I tried unplugging the cable & plugging it back in to no avail. I followed all the other instructions. anybody have any other ideas?
Hi,I have a 2g iphone and I would like to know which ipsw I am supposed to use cause when I downloaded the link given for 2g i.e.(iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw), Red snow says ipsw unrecognised? Is this the correct or did I download the wrong ipsw?
It didn't work for me :(
My iPhone is stuck
same with me daveman
You guys are amazing, just wanted to show my respect. Great job once again, and as always extremely helpful and easy instructions for any and all problems.
Redsnow works perfect people are just so anxious to unlock their iphone all u have to do is when u r holding on the bottom button hold on to it for more than 30 secs u will automatically see the icon for the download to appear then u will see the pine apple guy that is all to it so simple so don't be so impatient i hope this info. can help u unfortunately my iphone is broke is thier anyone that can help me get 1 email me @ nycgoatee@verizon.net...
GOODLUCK
redsn0w was design to make it easy put cydia into your iphone, remmember once cydia is on your iphone then u go wifi into cydia on your iphone and download ultrsn0w very simple.
The steps Are:
1-Open cydia
2-go into source
3- press edit , then add
4- Type in repo666.ultrasn0w.com
5- then install
Now u have unlocked and jailbreak you 3g 3.0 iphone.
oh but before u do any of this u must download the original software that your iphone have on to your desktop (2.1,2.0,3.0 etc )because redsn0w will ask for it so that it customize it.u can easily check on your iphone in general and about to find out what firmware your iphone is running. go on to this website and download it http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
if u have any questions feel free to email me @ nycgoatee@verizon .net
Is there a similar fix for it not getting past the "loading ramdisk" phase of jailbreaking?
Download redsn0w 0.8 and run it as administrator. I never got any problems with waiting for reboot.
for me, i am working with a windows vista 64-bits and i am using a 16GB iPhone 3G with no sim lock (not the unlock one). I am always facing with the trouble of getting stuck on the uploading ramdisk part. So if there is any solution plz email me. Btw i did the jailbreak on my 32GB ipod touch and it worked fine, so i don't think it is the programs fault, maybe it is my phone......
I feel thoroughly foolish now. I forgot that since my 3G S came with 3.0, I didn't have an IPSW file for the software on my computer. I was trying to use the ISPW file for my iPhone 0G.
still getting the waiting for reboot , tried unplugging usb , many differnt ways . iswp using the old for 3g phones ,mine is a 3gs but the iswp that I downloaded only has files no iswp that will open in the box, help , Iv'e jailbroken many phones but this is wierd, restored 6 times now, thanks Kenny
this iswp; iphone 2,1 3-1,does not open like the old iswp for the 3g redsn0w jailbreake, is it what I need to do a 3gs with 3.0.1? I had it broken with purplerain and it was perfect, but was afraid of the virus , kenny
How do I find the password to run as administrator? you are the only 1 I have seen throw that comment out here and im willing to try anything right now...getting frustrated with the waiting to reboot phase
I kno this is pointless but can I get 3.0.1 on my iPod touch 1G
This trick worked for me, for those having problems when you go to unplug the phone from usb instead of unplugging the phone, unplug the usb cable itself from the computer, leaving the phone attached to the cable, then quickly plug it back in, this was the only way I was able to get it to work.
DUDE! You Save My Life! all my friends don't know how-to solve the reboot problem, but after make the unplug/plug solution. i can jailbreak my itouch 2 gen.
hey, sory for my english, i'm from brazil.
again thkx a lot!~
redownload the 3.0 ipsw firmware with fire fox ,and it will work........! no more , waiting for rebooot or not recognizing firmware, badk in bizz!
I have tried redsn0w 0.8 on both a 3G and a 3GS phone repeatedly on 3 separate Windows Xp machines to no avail. I used Iphone 1, 1_3.0_uA341_Restore.IPSW. (downloaded from the net 3 times)
I have also tried the rapid USB plug and unplug both from the phone and from the USB plug. I have also tried holding down the home button for from 30 to 90 seconds -
The program does the first reboot and loads second stage. The program gets to the second Wait for Reboot and just sits.
BTW - both phones had previously been jailbroken and unlocked.
I just found my solution. Sometimes it helps to document what you do to find you own answer.
I noticed that the IPSW file I had was the incorrect one for my phones. I went back to page one of this fine site and downloaded the correct IPSW for my phones. It loaded perfectly - well almost perfectly - I got an error message that redsn0w.exe encountered a problem and needs to close.... I ignored and allowed the flash to continue. Phone is now Jailbroken.
Thanks for great work on this progy
My 3gs would not boot either.
This worked for me:
- shutdown iPhone before starting redsn0w
- start redsn0w : for me it asked to put it in restore mode
- follow the instructions to put it into restore mode
- now the jailbreak works in one time (for me)
used 3.01 firmware on the iphone, redsn0w 0.8 en pointed to 2,1 3.0 ipsw
good luck!
I confirm what Vincent G says, iPhone should pe powered down BEFORE starting redsn0w, then everything works like a charm. However, it did not ask to put phone into restore mode, but who cares:) Also, I had to download 3.0.1 firmware for my 1st gen iPhone again through iTunes, because it complained about the file I have already downloaded before from http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-6972.20090731.Zx3Rr/iPhone1,2_3.0.1_7A400_Restore.ipsw. The files differ in size, good one should be 229MB, the bad one was 230MB! I don't have exact size in bytes, since I have immediately deleted the bad one...
I've tried unplugging and plugging it back in and I'm still stuck on waiting to reboot.
I've tried everything I can think of to no success. I try re-plugging the phone when it gets stuck on waiting to reboot, running redsn0w 0.8 in admin mode and redownloading the firmware. Nothing seems to work. I'd really appreciate some help. My email is Borfase@gmail.com
It works! I unplugged it and plug it again quickly and it works! Lovely!
that actually worked
OMG life saver :)))
if you have this problem, FOLLOW THIS SOLUTION, IT WORKS.
I tried lots of time, but its stuck ont he time of reboot------ cn u help me with an appropriate help...
If this solution doesn't work for you, it may be because you are running a 64 bit operating system. You must use a 32 bit windows OS or a mac to jailbreak. Hope this helps someone.
worked for me...
Unplugging and plugging back in quickly also works on mac os x!
Yes the unplugging trick works!! finally..yay
yeas unplugging the cable while it is hanging on 'waiting to reboot' and plugging it back in after a second worked.
LOL after all of the other fancy 'solutions' this one actually worked!!
thanks to whoever stumbled across the idea = do the one thing you shouldn't do when a transfer is in progress- unplug the cable!!
Thanks! Had the same issue and that did the trick
bull shit it doesnt work what do i do
on the 3GS NONE of these techniques work !!!
it gets stuck in DFU mode on the waiting for reboot screen EVERYtime ...
HOWEVER on A 3G unplugging it replugging does work to reboot once you get it in DFU mode. I just jailbroke my 3G last week ...
The 3GS is near impossible .... something is wrong .. besides i NEVER get a screen/prompt that says put your device in RECOVERY MODE with redsn0w 0.8 ... i am not sure why some people's redsn0w is giving that screen/ prompt ?!?!
like in this video .. notice the screen at 4:20 that says put your device in recovery mode !!! wtf ????????!!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW61wFTqtRA
I have an IPhone 3G with edge and GPS, I'm using Windows XP on a 32bit laptop.
For me too, redsn0w waits for ever in DFU mode on the "waiting for reboot" screen.
I found that, if I start ITunes while redsn0w is still waiting, I can start a "restore" that causes the restart of the iphone. After that, the redsn0w wakes up and finishes its work. Unfortunatelly at the end the iphone does not reboot and after a manual reboot no jailbreak is present anymore.
Mac users...
Make sure you are running Redsn0w 0.8 and the firmware titled iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341.
If you are using the latest Redsn0w and the correct firmware, you shouldn't have any issues.
Not sure if this is the same for the windows clan.
Hope this helps!
I had same freaking problem on the 3g with 3.0.1 and the unplugging trick worked. finally thanks a million.
SOME1 PLZ HELP!!! this technique does NOT work...wat can i do...PLZ HELP SOME1
HI thanx for this it works the second time... 1st time i updated to 3.0.1 so thank you very much
I finally got this method to work, after searching around the web for no less than 5 hours, trying every new trick I could find. Nothing worked, not even the 'unplug' trick. I finally got Vincent G's method to work on the second go round. Unlike ZeXx though, I used the 230mb file and redsn0w 7.2
Iphone is now up and running... can't wait to see what other hurdles I'm about to run into!
Good luck all
Bruce
Does this work with the 3gs only or the 3g also?
I tried this with my 3g and every time i do it redsnow crashes.
breaking a 3G on 3.0.1 using the unplug method. Worked for me. thanks.
Thanks again to the DEV TEAM. I upgraded my iphone 3G to FW 3.0.1 and it works fine. but the only problem is the battery is draining to fast. so i did a hard reset and it works fine now just like it was before the upgrade. Thanks again guys!!!!!!!
I did everything that was potes here... still no luck for me.... i am on Redsnow 8.0, itunes 8.2, 3G iphone with 3.0.1 fw, using Windows ... please help...
none of the solutions work i have an iphone 3g 3.0.1 nothing works iv tried eveything
yeah unpluging it and pluging it back in does not work, its still stuck in "waiting for reboot" ive tried jailbreaking my 3g on my friends windows computer and that works... but i crashed my iphone and have to do it again and it doesnt work on my mac.
any ideas what to do? i wanna be able to do it on my mac
Thanks a LOOOOOOT! That really helped!
This fixed the problem for my 3G phone. Thanks!
Thank youuuuu ! It work on my Mac, I was stuck with "waiting to reboot" and after this it works like a charm.
it still doesnt work for mine.
how long does it take?
Supersweet! It worked on my ipod 2g 3.0
Had to recover my phone three times now and done with it. The "fix" for being stuck in the reboot loop doesn't work on my computer. Anyone know a different way to jailbreak the new update (3.0.1)? Seriously frustrating.
Thanks so much! Pulling the USB WORKED!
This did not work for me the first time, but did the second. I suspect the main difference was that the first time I was going through a USB hub and had several other devices hooked up. The second time, I removed the hub and plugged the phone directly into my Mac's USB port.
Hell yeah! that worked perfectly!! thanks!!!
bleh, my wife's iphone gave me the 'downloading firmware to ramdisk' and was stuck there. Tried unplug/re-plugging the usb cable didn't do any wonders either. In the process of restoring zhe iphone with itunes.
will keep you updated. btw, i am trying to unlock my 2g iphone 16gb
hmm great, trying to jail break for the 3rd time. silly of me to change my procedure. the first few attemps i did it without the sim card and firm or software version was 2.2
Now on my 3rd attempt sim card was in place and fully restored from itunes with their latest software update. the hickup was still at the rebooting point, but this time the usb cable pull was a success. But now i don't know whether putting in the sim card or fully restoring from itunes did the trick.
i prefer to believe that fully restoring from itunes did the trick.
It doesn't work for me!! i've tried several times, nothing happens!
Doesn't work for me ..I tries 10 times with no result... :-(
Pay attention to the firmware version you are downloading 2G 3G 3Gs firmware names are very similar but not the same, using the wrong one couses it to get stuck.
using firmware 3.0 for 3gs and this is not working:(
You are actully using the firmware for the iphone 2G.
you should use for the 3G: Iphone1,2_3.0_uA341_Restore.IPSW
and for the 3GS: Iphone2,1_3.0_uA341_Restore.IPSW
I tried this on my 3GS about 5 times; it doesn't work. Everything worked fine on my partner's iPhone 3G but it seems that the 3GS can't be jailbroken. At least not with this method.
Worked only after I switched to another USB port.
if you're curently using ร 3GS, beware to get the good ipsw file : it should be iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw and not iPhone1,2 cause it's for 3G.
THANKYOU SO MUCH!
i've been trying to do this for so long:)
tring to jailbreak my itouch but im on my friends computer and it wont reconize my firmware when i use redsn0w please help
Thanks good with de Waiting For Reboot issue! You saved my life! Thank you!!
thank you so much.
After 2 weeks that I had the same problem with my 3GS. I found the solution:
when you need to locate your device’s IPSW file, MAKE SURE YOU PICK THIS ISPW: 1_3.0_7A341_Restore and NOT 2_3.0_7A341_Restore although this is the one for the 3GS. After I pick 1_3.0_7A341 the Jailbreak worked perfectly !
*. After you choose the right ISPW follow the program instruction and you will be done in less then 3 minutes...
Good Luck !
i have tried to unlock my iphone 3gs 3.0.1 and have not had any sucess. i dont think that it is possible at the moment. not one thing has worked for me
do what the post said, if it gets suck on the "waiting to reboot" unplug it and quickly plug it back in, it should work fine after that
i plugged it and then unplugged it but it is still on waiting to reeboot. PLZ REPLY
hey guys nothing work for me . even when i unplug the usb cable and plugin back to my pc instantly ,it seems that again "waiting for reboot" .... pls anyone let me know what i need to do??????????
After uploading the second stage. it says and stuck in "waiting for reboot" .. please anyone help me ........
If you get stuck at the rebooting stage, and unplugging and reconnecting doesn't work - hold your home button and power button and wait for your iPhone to start up as normal, and then just close redsn0w and try it again. The stage you restart at hasn't done anything yet and so there's no possibilities of it bricking your phone.
Enjoy!
YAY!
FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM ..
IF YOUR GETTING STUCK AT THE "REBOOTING SCREEN" ...
MAKE SURE YOU DONT HAVE A SIM CARD IN YOUR PHONE AND THAT THE SIM TRAY IS NOT IN YOUR PHONE
AFTER THAT TRY AGAIN IT SHOULD WORK PERFECTLY!
Ok so it is absolutely critical that you have the correct firmware. iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
Note: It is easy to miss the fact that the 3G is 1,2 and the 3GS is 2,1
I struggled with the reboot thing for hours until I saw in a post that minor (major) distinction.
Worked perfectly once I got the correct firmware.
Tried everything here, including the no SIM option.. still a no-go. What's going on?
you're... so... super-awsome !
I have tried this on 2 different phones about 30 times and it will not go through no matter what. Haven't tried it without the SIM so I'll give that a shot. But the unplug thing hasn't worked. Was using redsn0w 8. Is that one still having problems. I am trying my best to find the redsn0w 72 so i can try that but I can't find that one now. Any ideas or comments?
I've tried the different firmware, unplugging USB, taking sim out (and sim tray) and I'm still stuck at the 'Waiting for Reboot' screen. What else can I do??
i plugged it and then unplugged it but it is still on waiting to reeboot.it's very very frustrating............
till now i have tried several times same stucked at reboot...
so plz plz plz help meeee
waiting for ur quick reply....
thanks
i also have tried unplugging USB, taking sim out (and sim tray) and I’m still stuck at the ‘Waiting for Reboot’ screen. What else can I do?????
it's really getting too much frustration.........
some people had been jail broked in their first attempt!!!!!!
what's the problem with some of us????
so plz help meeee........
waiting for ur reply......
thanks
tried to unplugging, and replugging, and it didnt work. no matter how many times i tried. i used one of friend's computers and it worked without a hitch. might wanna give it a try if anyone is having problems
you have to use the correct firmware in order to get past the waiting to reboot, so if you have an i pod you have to use the ipod firmware and not the iphone
For everyone having problems with "Waiting for Reboot":
I just tried for the last 2 or 3 hours to try to Jailbreak my 1G iPod touch. When I thought all else was lost, I tried one last thing and plugged the ipod straight into my computer instead of into my 4 way USB port I had been using and it worked. If anyone is using a 3rd party USB port, try plugging the USB cable directly into your computer
I just can't get this to work.... spent the whole day trying. Have followed every bit of advice in the various forums. Still stops at "waiting to reboot" - I have an iPhone 2G, with 3.0.1
heeellllppp
Thanks!
wow, thanks, that worked like a charm!
I have the same problem with a Iphone 3G with iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw and redsn0w 0.72. Don't work!!. Jailbreak stuck on “Waiting for Reboot”, i have tried a lot of times, in different USB ports, i also have tried unplugging USB. Please Help
Its based on the firmware. I been at it with over 20 phones because they were in the store I was working at. I used firmware iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore with redsn0w. It jail broke the phone and it asks you to put into recovery mode which is turning the phone off. then wait a few seconds , now while holding down the home button until after the apple appears and dissappears.
Lets see is they can figure this one out. I get all the way to the downloading jailbreak data screen and then i get stuck. what i gods green earth is going on at this point I wait 20 mins and still there and then it just shuts off and i still have a locked phone. Please someone help me.
i have a 2g phone with 3.0.1. redsnow 8 doesnt work for me, it keeps crashing. i am using the 0.7.1. had the same problems as everybody else, stuck on the reboot screen. taking the sim out worked, but the phone doent rebbot. the program goes through the 3 stage process normally, but the phone is stuck with a dark illuminating screen, just like 2 seconds before shutting down. any other suggestions?
my fault i ment 3gs
i have a 3g6 with 3.0.1 software and i have the same exact problem, can some on give some help asap please

kool! it rly worx, thx for advice :)
the main thing is to unplug the USB and rly quickly plug it back, meaning in a split of second
i have a 1g ipod. how can i fix this problem?? ps there seems to be no jb program for a 1g ipod any more. little help any1????
I Have an IPhone 3G and I have not been able to jailbrake it. I am using Redsn0w .8 and the correct firmware but it keeps getting stuck in "waiting for reboot" I did the USB thing but it wont work. after i try to jailbreak the iphone 3g using redsnow take along time to downloadthe jailbreak software after all said and done phone was still not jailbreak cydia was not download to my phone
This is not working for me!!
when it tells you the press the home button 30 seconds... and it switches to the update screen.. CONTINUE TO PRESS THE HOME BUTTON FOR THE REMAINING SECONDS !!!
thats the secret ! ;)
thank you i was about to cry hehe
Thanks! that did the trick
I couldn't get it to work. I used Purplera1n and it worked great.
i tried it and it didnt work, and now my phone wont turn on? i cant restore it back to 3.0 is there jail breaking in 3.1?
you need to buy a usb cable for it to work
the phone is stuck on reboot and i already quickly unplugged and plugged the usb but nothing happened. its still struck on reboot
does NOT WORK!!!!!
Which version of redsn0w did you guys use? I had the same issue with an iPhone 3G running 3.0.1 and redsn0w 0.8.
Solution is keep it in DFU mode, cancel redsn0w 0.8, open redsn0w 0.72 and go through the process, no need to go in DFU mode again.
It should work then. Any questions just hit me up.
~meebz
Thanks!! Worked like a charm for me.
OMG! I GOT IT! you restore it like it says. than when it says waiting for reboot. you unplug it restore it again and when it reboots. you plug it back in.
quick unplug worked for me
thanks
worked exactly how he said it would. i was stuck on this for a long time. thanks :)
Worked exactly what it said.
I unpluged the usb and plgued it back and here we go....
Well i have followed all the steps but still after finishing my iphone start with the initial un-recognize sim condition :S. What do you mean by quickly unpluging, at what stage should i do it?
I tried everything above and in the comments to get past this "waiting to reboot" problem, and none of it worked...
Then i upgraded iTunes to version 8.2.1 (it was version 7 before) so that it would be iphone-compatible...
And it's just finished jailbreaking!!
i am using redsn0w ang it always get stuck on the rebooting part. i mean that when it say wiating for it to reboot, it never does. i tried it like a million time already. but i know how to get it out of dfu mode though so anything can help
blackra1n rocks, redsn0w sucks. when i tried to use redsn0w, and i tried it like 50 times or something, it always got stuck on the reboot part. but i only tried like twice using blackra1n, it worked on the second time. download blackra1n directly from the creator website (http://www.blackra1n.com/).
oh yeah, i might have found a solution to the getting stuck on reboot part of jailbreaking, have itunes running whenever u r bout to jailbreak. tell me if it works for u guys.
yea mike that works but now its stuck in recovery mode
Can someone tell me how many minute does it need for reboot & how long i have to wait !? coz it is not working for me even when i plug out_in :(
it didnt work
Unplug iPhone from the cable.
Then just press both power and home button until u see the apple logo.
That should "wake" it out of the dark screen more.
THANK YOU, I was being stuck on this stupid problem since two hours, I feel very thankful.
i use blackra1n and its stuck on reboot!!!!!!
OMG! Thank you! This worked amazingly. I just ran black rain and the firmware together and it jailbroke instantly.
I tried to jailbreak my new iphone 3gs 3.1.2 yesterday with blackra1n but when the image of geohot disappeared the phone went black and dead. I restored it and tried again but with no fortune. Someone having the same problem or knows how to fix it?
Good tip!
thanks man that work ma phone came back on from the the dark and dead screen and everything is still in ma phone
I have iPhone 3gs on 3.1.3 firmware. I recently jailbroke using blackrain and it worked up to the point of installing cydia, then crashed. I have restored phone back to normal and retried the process. Once I have run blackrain again it says jailbroken phone, wait for reboot and the phone stays with a blackscreen and nothing. When I unplug the USB it just goes back to normal and not jailbroken???? Please can anybody help, I have spent
hours and it's driving me mad!!!!! Please
hey guys, i had this problem too. what i did was i just did the putting the phone in DFU mode again (pushing the buttons for the 2 seconds then 10, then 30) and it then did the whole reboot thing ad worked =) email me if you have questions amitshah17@gmail.com
i solved it already!i just put my ipod touch in DFU mode again while it was holding on "waiting for reboot"(it means put in DMU mode directly again)it worked for me,but i don't know if it work for you.
hope can help you=)
Holy crap that worked!! thanks bro!! your the greatest!! =))
