Apple recently released the iPhone 3.0.1 update for iPhone users. This update was released to fix a SMS vulnerability that Charlie Miller and Collin Mulliner discovered in iPhone OS 3.0. If you have a jailbreak or unlock, you will need to follow the below steps to keep it.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3.0.1

1. After updating to iPhone 3.0.1 download and install iPhone 3.0 firmware.

Download iPhone firmware 3.0 (filename: iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw)

Download iPhone 3G firmware 3.0 (filename: iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw)

Download iPhone 3GS firmware 3.0 (filename: iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw )

2. Download redsn0w.

3. Follow the guide at the Jailbreak iPhone 3.0.1 post. When you select the firmware, choose the 3.0 firmware instead of the 3.0.1 firmware. This is safe and it works!

Update: If your iPhone 3GS is stuck on “Waiting for reboot” unplug your USB cable and plug it back in.

Unlock iPhone 3.0.1

1. Follow the steps above to  jailbreak your iPhone.

2. Once your iPhone is jailbroken, open Cydia.

3. Add repo666.ultrasn0w.com to your sources

4. Install ultrasn0w, and reboot!

5. Now your iPhone should be unlocked.

It worked as expected.. Amazing.. I saved $20 to unlock.. Since this is free of cost right? If you follow the given instructions, you would complete it successfully.

I did two months ago and my iphone is working as usual.

    Thanks,
    Saravanan

I got same problem when trying to jailbreak/unlock my iphone. got over it by using bootneuter software. Go to cydia and search for this bootneuter app and install it. It worked for me.

      • edgar says:

try doing a hard restore. with the phone off press the power button till it turns on then add the home button till it turns off again and then let go of the power button (while still holding the home button) and you should hold the home button for 30 seconds and your phone should go into revocery mode and should pop up in itunes.

FINALLY found the solution. In case this may help someone else:

“the apple logo reboot thing and then it would just shut off. But if you do a hard reset hold the lock screen button and home button untill it turns off.

    1.Open itunes
    2. Push and hold home button
    3. plug phone into computer (while still holding home button)
    4. and it should see it in itunes and it will ask if you want to restore it. ”

it works. no more bricked phone.

  5. DdD says:

You have to downgrade to 3.0 first.

  6. carla says:

ok so heres my problem, id be grateful if you people out there could give me a bit of help.

iphone was jailbroken and unlocked, worked fine.
then it asked me if i wanted to update the iphone software, i clicked yes.
    iphone is now locked again.
try using this, but i cant access anything on my phone. so its jailbroken ( i think) but i cant unlock it. as i cant gain access to cydia.
i really have NO idea what to do now. when i turn it on it just comes up with the same symbol before i tried to jailbreak. (its like a picture of the USB cable, and an arrow pointing to the itunes logo) it wont go off that.
    any suggestions? :\
    p.s my iphone is 2g 3.0
    thank you

ps i recently did this with my phone yesterday so i cold unlock it.

I used Blackra1n to jailbreak my iPhone 3G on firmware 3.1.2, and then used Snow to unlock. The jailbreak worked flawless, but it’s the unlock I’m having issues with. I put my T-Mobile sim card in and I MAY get one bar reception… then it dissappears in to “Searching”… and then I get “No Service”. The same happens to an Orange and Vodafone sim card. I’ve already turned off 3G connectivity and tried to reset network connections with no positive result.

I don’t know what to do from this step forward and any point in to the right direction is greatly appreciated.
