iPhone 3GS Overheating
Reports of iPhone 3GS overheating problems have been spreading around the net. It all started at Nowhereelse where an iPhone 3GS owner posted a picture of a White iPhone 3GS 32GB which turned PINK on the back due to overheating.
The iPhone 3GS owner reported that he was using the iPhone 3GS’s GPS and 3G connection which caused the overheating and the discoloring. This story has spread on huge sites like Gizmodo, Engadget, and PCWorld. I’ve been reading through the comments on these sites and haven’t noticed anyone else claiming to have this problem. Do you have an iPhone 3GS? If you have any overheating problems please share them with us in the comments below!

My gf has a 16GB 3GS with a black cover, considering it’s back cover is black it doesn’t overheated yet, my old 2G heats up a lot when using EDGE but only during heavy use which I’m sure it’s the samething with the new phones.
I’ve Got an iPhone 3gs and it does overheat when using gps and 3g specially when running AT&T navigator (wich by the way sucks) but other than that I haven’t had any type of discoloring on the back cover yet. And sicr it’s Release I haven’t experience any hard OS crashes.
Have you ever thought that he had used it for an extended period of time and was unaware of the heat generation i.e. downloads, extended internet browsing, 100% brightness and autolock on never?
I think it’s bullshit it wouldn’t just overheat
I have a 3GS and it got the overheating warning sitting in the sun at a baseball game while using the MLB App. I figured it was because it’s the black 3GS and it was out in the view of the sun…guess not.
I have the 2g 8gig iphone with the new 3.0 software and JB and i thought it was going to catch on fire in my pocket the other day. I turned it off and havent turned it back on since. I think it might be something with the new software
Ya , i have noticed that my 3g has been getting alot hotter during use and charging since i installed the 3.0 firmware ?
I have the 3gs and when playing a game for about 30 min my phone get hot
I remember my 3gs geting very hot while I was messing around with maps and google earth I rember thinking why is the back so hot and the screen was cold I only messed with it for 5 mins
If you think about it, a faster processor means more heat, imagine if apple let’s apps run on the backround!!!!
Hi,
I have an iPhone 2G and because I’m a Windows user (mainly) and after I have unlocked the phone with OS 3.0 it was constantly hot, even when it was not charging. Furthermore the battery was dead in aprox. 2-3 hours. I do not know the reason, and I do not remember the phone being slower at that time (it was some while ago and I did not use that version of OS for more than 10 minutes). Currently I have an image of 3.0 firmware downloaded from the web that has been already unlocked.
my ipod touch 1G (im upto date with my devices huh?) overheats when i download a file larger than 100 mb. this one time it was actually to hot touch. i measured it with a laser thermometer and it read a scary 74.3 degrees Celsius! or 180 degrees Fahrenheit! next time it over heats ill take a picture with the thermometer reading! i think i could cook an egg on it if i put some PAM on it
White plastic turning pink is not from heat, heat makes plastic turn yellow. Pink is from microwave radiation, because it constantly sends/receives data ie push, it’s basically a microwave.
In my opinion The Iphone overheating is mainly caused by GPS usage, by using the GPS of the iphone, you can notice that is the function that overheatheat the phone the most.
As I sit here charging my 32 gig black 3G-S and reading this post my iPhone is getting awefully warm even through my rubber iPhone case and gets pretty warm at random while using 3G. I’m on ipsw 3.0
my gps makes my 3gs very very hot
When I first bought the 3gs it was overheating due to use, like browsing the net or playing game even when it was charger it felt a bit warmer
I have a 1st gen 8gb iPhone it’s jailbrokeb and unlocked and what not. when I download movies from the app movies or off of megauploader it gets really really hot. it always does that, but does not get hot when charging
My iPhone 2G overheated, and the battery went down completely in a little more than an hour. This did not happen until i put my SIM card in. To fix this, simply turn off you phone completely until it isn’t warm anymore, then turn it back on.
since the 3.0 update my brand new 3g has developed a blue haze on pictures and videos. i noted once it felt really hot and the next day the camera was doing that. i’m not sure how to submit a sample pic taken from the phone.
