How to jailbreak with redsn0w
Jailbreak, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 2G | Hans | June 26, 2009 at 3:13 pmIf you want to jailbreak any current iPhone or iPod Touch devices running on iPhone OS 3.0, you must use redsn0w. This post will show a step-by-step tutorial on how to jailbreak your device with redsn0w.
You can download redsn0w for Windows, Mac, or Linux here.
redsn0w 0.8 will only work with iPhone 3.0, iPhone 3G 3.0, iPhone 3GS 3.0, iPod Touch 3.0, and iPod Touch 2G 3.0.
1. Download the iPhone OS 3.0 IPSW file for your device and save it to your desktop. Here are the file names for each device, make sure you have the right one:
- iPhone 2G – filename: iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw [download link]
- iPhone 3G – filename: iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw [download link]
- iPhone 3GS – filename: iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw [download link]
- iPod Touch 1G – filename: iPod1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
- iPod Touch 2G – filename: iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
2. Open the redsn0w 0.8 application.
3. Click the Browse button.
4. Locate your device’s IPSW file that you downloaded in step 1 and click Open.
5. The redsn0w window will have the “IPSW successfully identified” message. Click the Next button to continue.
6. redsn0w will ask you to “Please select which options you would like to have“. Make sure the Install Cydia box has a check on there and then click Next.
7. redsn0w will ask you to make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to your computer. Make sure you plug in your device in to your computer and then turn it off. Click Next once you have done this.
8. redsn0w will now ask you to connect your device in DFU mode.
- Hold down the Power button for 3 seconds
- Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (bottom center button) for 10 seconds
- Without releasing the Home button, release the Power button BUT KEEP holding the Home button for 30 seconds
- If you don’t do this properly you will get a DFU Mode Failed message and you’ll have to go back to step one.
9. Once your device has successfully entered DFU Mode, redsn0w will show the following message: “Please wait while your device is being jailbroken. Waiting for reboot.” Your device should reboot after this.
10. Once your device has rebooted redsn0w will start uploading the RAMDisk and kernel.
11. After everything has been successfully uploaded to your device, redsn0w will have; the “Done!” message. Your device will now reboot and you should see the Cydia app on your SpringBoard.

If it goes to the screen “downloading jailbreak data” and will not stop, I am pretty sure you need to upgrade your itunes to the latest update. Then reboot your computer and start the redsn0w app
I want to jailbrak a iPod Touch 2G but there is no download link to the iPod Touch 2G – filename: iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw file..
How can I get that file??
Just copy iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw on a google search you’ll find a megaupload link, and that’s it !
After going through the whole process smoothly upto 10 , and disply of DONE and clicking Finish. The 3G iphone continues with ” Downloading Jailbreak DATA…”, even when completely disconnected from the laptop for a long time. Then the APPLE Logo appeared.
Everything works fine untill the message: “Please wait while your device is being jailbroken. Waiting for reboot.” Your device should reboot after this…..
My device doesnt reboot…. i tried several times, what shoul i do??? what am i doing wrong?

I have a iphone 2G which was running on ver 2.2. I followed exactly the same thing as said here and my phone also went blank with “Downloading Jailbreak DATA” and later it went to the restore screen. I didnt have an option but to restore the phone using iTunes and everything went fine until it said that I cannot use my SIM card and my phone was locked!!
As I read that 3.1.2 is not ready for jailbreak, I was afraid that my iphone was ‘bricked’.
I tried my luck with the Black rain (http://www.blackra1n.com) on my Mac and it was the simplest jailbreak ever..My phone was alive in less than a minute and I installed Cydia from the Blackrain icon in the iPhone. But my phone contacts, songs, pictures and everything was empty. I connected the phone to iTunes waiting for a miracle and in some minutes it synced my phone with iTunes and “Boom” I have my same old things (including notes, weather settings, alarms etc…I love this!!) back in my 2G 2.2 iPhone currently running 3.1.2!!
But there are flaws here…Cydia requires respring everytime I install a new application, The status bar which shows details of the service provider and WiFi status just become blank sometimes and re-appear after sometime..Expecting bugfixes for all these soon!!

will redsnow.8 (or whatever it is) work on firmware 3.1.2 or is there a redsnow for it or a different jailbreak BESIDES BLACKRAIN IT HAS NOT WORKED AND I HAVE RESTORED 3 TIMES NOW!!!!!!!

Just a question…i bought an iPhone 3G-S and the line is locked. I just need to unlock the phone so I can use my local sim. But i do not need to jailbreak for applications. Is Redsnow the right software for me?
how long is the “downloading jailbreak data…” supposed to take???
For the noobies,
make sure that the firmware your jailbreaking is the same as your ipods firmwae
example: jailbreaking: iPod1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
and my ipod is 3.0
does this iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw work for 3.1.2???

i download iPhone 2G – filename: iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw by IDM it download on rar file, i extract it but there is no ipsw file .dmg files and other. Please help me how do i get ipsw file ?
Dont use safari use firefox or ie for download

i have a 2nd g i-touch and tried blackrain and it didnt work at all it made me go to itunes and restore it tottaly how do i make it work any other websites to go to???
Just used it on my old iphone 2G. howe long does it take or wait after .. devicesi sbeing jailbroken .. waiting for reboot because nothing is happening.

Hello, I cant unlock my 2g, the jailbreak works, the phone reboots and it is locked. I put a tick to unlock in redsnow program, but it doesnt work. help needed. thank you
sooo, i was tryin this, the first time i err’d on the dfu mode, so i tried again, and the second time it went accordingly until i reached the ” waiting for reboot”…. then my ipod went black like it was gonna reboot and never did…… now it will not do anything….i fear i am bricked? but what the fux went wrong? grrrr……
