How to jailbreak with redsn0w
Jailbreak, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 2G | Hans | June 26, 2009 at 3:13 pmIf you want to jailbreak any current iPhone or iPod Touch devices running on iPhone OS 3.0, you must use redsn0w. This post will show a step-by-step tutorial on how to jailbreak your device with redsn0w.
You can download redsn0w for Windows, Mac, or Linux here.
redsn0w 0.8 will only work with iPhone 3.0, iPhone 3G 3.0, iPhone 3GS 3.0, iPod Touch 3.0, and iPod Touch 2G 3.0.
1. Download the iPhone OS 3.0 IPSW file for your device and save it to your desktop. Here are the file names for each device, make sure you have the right one:
- iPhone 2G – filename: iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw [download link]
- iPhone 3G – filename: iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw [download link]
- iPhone 3GS – filename: iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw [download link]
- iPod Touch 1G – filename: iPod1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
- iPod Touch 2G – filename: iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
2. Open the redsn0w 0.8 application.
3. Click the Browse button.
4. Locate your device’s IPSW file that you downloaded in step 1 and click Open.
5. The redsn0w window will have the “IPSW successfully identified” message. Click the Next button to continue.
6. redsn0w will ask you to “Please select which options you would like to have“. Make sure the Install Cydia box has a check on there and then click Next.
7. redsn0w will ask you to make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to your computer. Make sure you plug in your device in to your computer and then turn it off. Click Next once you have done this.
8. redsn0w will now ask you to connect your device in DFU mode.
- Hold down the Power button for 3 seconds
- Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (bottom center button) for 10 seconds
- Without releasing the Home button, release the Power button BUT KEEP holding the Home button for 30 seconds
- If you don’t do this properly you will get a DFU Mode Failed message and you’ll have to go back to step one.
9. Once your device has successfully entered DFU Mode, redsn0w will show the following message: “Please wait while your device is being jailbroken. Waiting for reboot.” Your device should reboot after this.
10. Once your device has rebooted redsn0w will start uploading the RAMDisk and kernel.
11. After everything has been successfully uploaded to your device, redsn0w will have; the “Done!” message. Your device will now reboot and you should see the Cydia app on your SpringBoard.

I have done this (redsnow jailbreak) before on many devices but I tried it on an iPod touch 2g and after it says ipsw successfully identified (3.0) redsnow just closes out. I’m running it on xp with the same setup I used before. Any suggestions???!
i followedthe steps carfully and the message of the reboot stayed there for ages so i cancelled it and now my ipod dosnot work at all??????????!???!!!!!!!!

You have to restore it… there should be a backup saved…. (is there a picture of the i tunes symbol and a picture of a usb thingy

I tried to install Cydia on my Iphone 3Gs with Redsnow, but when I finished the install process and restart my Iphone, there’s no Cydia on my Springboard. Anyone can tell me what to do?

i was in the middle off jailbreakin my iphone 3gs and then on my phone it came up with downloading jailbreak data… and its been stuck on that for ages and i cant do anything with it, i cant even turn itt off, iv tried unplugging it from the device and it still says it, can you help my please?

i tried doing this, but when it says browsing for IPSW, i look in my folders, but i cant seem to find it..?
When the phone goes to the screen “downloading jailbreak data” and will not stop first download “blackra1n” then unplug ur phone, then press the on/off and home button. when it goes to restart plug it back in and run blackra1n. it will get you to where you need to be.

i made everything like it is said.. at the end after saying “downloading jailbreak data” it starts new.. so everything like it should be but then cydia doesn’t appear, everything is like it was before.. can someone please help me?
so how would i download the ipod touch 2 gen firmware 3.0? i have a file that has the same title save for a few numbers at the end

but it doesnt work. its “not recognized”

3.0 IPSW file for your device and save it to your desktop..I don’t seem to be able to save to my desktop i am using firefox with vista can anyone please tell me how to do this.
I have tried this a couple of times. It starts out exactly as it shows here but then skips a few steps. It says done! But it does not restart. When I restart it Cydia does not appear.

OK so a jailbreak came out for 3.1.2 firmware so go to http://www.blackra1n.com/ click on windows logo or mac what ever os u are on and restore to 3.1.2 in itunes then open blackra1n and and hit make it ra1n button then it will jailbreak and any problems or freezes jest hold home and power for 20 sec and try again say thanks !!!!!!!!!!111
