Flash is coming to mobile operating systems!

Adobe has announced that they will be releasing a beta version of Flashplayer 10 for mobile operating systems some time in October. The specific operating systems Adobe mentioned were Google Android, Microsoft Windows Mobile, Nokia Symbian, and Palm WebOS. Notice something missing from this list? Yes, the iPhone was not mentioned! Adobe’s CEO Shantanu Narayen said that Adobe and Apple are still collaborating on Flash for the iPhone, with no specific launch date in sight. It doesn’t look like we will be seeing flash on the iPhone any time soon, but at least it will still be coming to other big mobile operating systems.

Flash coming to mobile operating systems is a really big thing not only for us but also for application developers. Developers will be able to easily make apps that work with other mobile operating systems too.  Video streaming, flash games, and all normal flash content will be viewable on our mobile phones. I can’t wait till Flashplayer 10 is out, I’ve seen way too many websites that don’t work on my mobile browser because of flash!

The funny thing is, I think Apple is trying to be fashionably late to the Flash party. Adobe is ready to go full throttle for the iPhone, it’s just that Apple is holding back for who knows what reason. 

  3. Bruce says:

Apple will probably wait until they sell millions of iPhone 3g s’s and then decide to make a new iPhone that has flash built in. I just bought a n iPhone 3g like six months ago and now they have a better one. No trade in programs with Rogers either. :(

  4. Azion_chick says:

Well that’s just poop. I font like apple right now  I hope they get it out soon

  5. Alex says:

    @Bruce

you CAN upgrade, though. Depending on your monthly bill, you’re entitled to credit towards a 3G S. I’m upgrading next week, thanks to $500 off :D

  6. Duck says:

Well 3.0 is good but, come on, flash for iPhone, is that so much to ask!!!!!

  7. Gabis says:

That sucks…. Apple is trying to get the most of it but they are to fu***ng slow!!! They are so anoying!! Too bad they restrict every thing couse i think they could have more clients if they wouldn’t!!! Hot to get that done soon ..

  8. J_Vendetta says:

Lol I agree with Bruce!! That’s y I still have my iPhone E cuz I’m waiting fir them to make a “complete i”phone”…it’s one of the reasons y I JB my iPhone so I can atleast enjoy something bout the iPhone hehe!! 2 cheers for apple’s stradegy “hip hip…hooray hip hip hooray”

  9. Edo says:

Maybe they already had an apple flash program in iPhone ..like iPod touch 2G has blue tooth in it…but however….keep awake for what we want

  10. Josh says:

    @J_Vandetta
haha that’s exactly what I’m doing. I still have my edge iPhone too. Who says you need a 3G S to record video? I’ll wait until maybe next year when the next one comes out. Cycorder will do just fine for now. Until flash comes out.. I’m sticking with my old dented iPhone 2G :)

  11. lee says:

2g? atleast buy the 3g on ebay bro, thats some real cheap SH**. I suppose u still use dial up untill they come up with something better than cable?? That makes no sense, if your broke be honest!!

  12. mrgeque says:

No Flash? that sux waaaay hard! But for now with my JailBroken 3G I can watch *almost any flsah video since Late 08….Thank you Cydia!!!

  13. Stuart Scott says:

Apple don’t want flash because it would cause app store sales to drop, as developers would not have to use AppStore to publish cool aps. Developers would also not need the sdk from apple or the need to learn a new programing language. In the end apple would loose money and control.

  14. BenG says:

@Stuart Scott, fair point but a flash app won’t be able to save information on your iPhone or be useable offline so it wouldn’t be a win win situaion if flash was there.

As has been mentioned before now a lot of macs struggle with flash ao our little iPhones won’t stand a chance with out some serious optimisation and even if this new release is that quick mr jobs isn’t going to let anything beta near his iPhone. Maybe when it hits final we might see this isn a future firmware 3.2?

  15. Manny says:

Apple and all big co-perations are all blood suckers for money.

Its such a pity that most of us need there technologies and theirs gagets to get by our daily lives.

  16. Michael says:

What about BlackBerry??? Some of the best sites use flash… and pictures just dont work for me.

  17. Enrique says:

Apple has become a Money-grubbing corporate whore. They keep releasing new iPhones with supposedly “new” features, like video for example. The iPhone 2g HAS video capability, but you have to jail break the mofo to make it work. WTF. If they don’t release flash for the iPhone 2g i will lose ALL faith in them, and I will buy a different smart phone. Fuck apple, they can keep screwing over other people, not me.

  18. Simon says:

APPLE NEED TO GET A GRIP!!!
    WE WANT FLASH

  19. Ryan says:

Umm there’s already flash for jb iPhones! It’s called imobilecinema ppl! Granted it’s only for videos but isn’t that really all we need? We already have the app store games who needs flash for them. Oh well I guess it’s just another way to stick it to old Apple™
