The DevTeam has released yellowsn0w, the world’s first iPhone 3G unlock. You must upgrade to the latest baseband 02.28 in order to use it. It is possible to use it with the older baseband on firmware 02.27 but the DevTeam has exclusively restricted it to work with the newest baseband. So if you haven’t already, upgrade to firmware 2.2 with the 02.28 baseband! Did you unlock your iPhone 3G? Post back your results here and let everyone know of the experience. From what I hear it should be a very simple automated process. You can download yellowsn0w from Cydia/Installer.

BE CAREFUL - I used this jailbreak soloution on 3 seperate computers, I seeked assistance from the ‘team’ which was slow and misleading.

you have to put 3g off to use it with t-mobile cuz att 3g does not work with t-mobile 3g….

I tried tubosim with att unlocked phone. now i used with tmobile sim card. works ok for outgoing and incoming calls and sms. but only problem other person could nt shows my cell no, it shows blocked . hide my no. but incoming works fine.can anybody help me, this is locked phone 2.0. version.

FOUND THIS and IT WORKED for ME… I wasn’t successful the first time, done it 3 times and it worked. Fonts was too small that’s why i had so much typo while doing it.
This is for changing the baseband of your iphone without going through the whole restore process.
1. Download Mobile Terminal from Cydia.
2. Download the file from the link at the bottom of this post, uncompress it and upload the files via SSH to /var/root/
3. Open Mobile Terminal
Note: You can only use this program. Don’t use mac terminal as the iphone will be disconnected in one of the steps
4. Type in: su
5. Type in the password: alpine
6. Type in: cd /var
7. Type in: cd root
8. Type in: chmod 755 BBUpdaterExtreme
9. Type in: launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
10. Type in: ./BBUpdaterExtreme update -f ICE2_02.28.00.fls -e ICE2_02.28.00.eep
11. Reboot your iPhone
12. Now your iPhone must be in the 02.28.00 baseband! You can check it in Settings>General>About.

Unfortunately it won’t. Baseband upgrades are permanent!
i did all the step , but at the end my baseband still 02.30.03
The iPhone baseband is not downgradeable. You will be stuck with this baseband permanently until Apple releases a new baseband for your iPhone 3G.
i actually jailbreaked my iphone 3g 2.2.1 and when i download theme applications i cant see it on home menu but its says it was installed. how will i open this themes and use it????? tnx
download winterboard and then opoen up winterboard and tap whichever theme you have downloaded.

I’m running on Firmware 2.2 baseband 02.30.00, I have tried the above method hopping to downgrade the baseband to 02.28.00, so I would be able to use yellowsw0n.
after running the code, and rebooting, my iPhone is still running on baseband 02.30.00, is there any other way to downgrade it ??

No, there is no way to downgrade it because baseband upgrades are permanent.
