I just jailbroke my iPod Touch 1st Generation with the firmware 2.2.1 update thanks to Vortex, a Russian hacker for creating the bundles for the firmware 2.2.1 update. You can jailbreak firmware 2.2.1 for your iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch 1st Generation now. A lot of people are anxiously awaiting this jailbreak but you must realize that it’s beta and it won’t be worth it jailbreaking yet. iPhone 3G users, do not update to firmware 2.2.1 if you want to keep your unlock because firmware 2.2.1 will update your baseband permanently. You will need to download custom firmware with an earlier baseband in order to use jailbreak.

i left my iphone on the net while my itunes was trying to upgrade but unfortunately for me it upgraded with it and it got locked. really i almost cried but since i was a man i held myself.i some how jail broke it and now its jail broken but the problem is i cant make any calls with it because i did not find the unlock tool in the PWN software. right now, there is no difference between my iphone and an ipod touch because they practically as the case may be do the same thing now.the main question is PLEASE IS THERE ANYWAY I CAN UNLOCK THE IPHONE 3G 2.2.1 so that i can make calls with it because that is my main reason for getting it not listening to ipod music if i wanted an i pod touch i would have gotting it. if you can help me, i will be the happiest man on earth.thanks for the future. chris

Hi, i just bought a factory unlocked iphone 3g. If I update to 2.2.1 thru itunes then just jailbreak the phone not using the custom software that upgrades the baseband, would it cause problems for the cydia and installer app? thanks.
Today I decided to jailbreak my iPhone with the 2.2.1 update. So, everything was going smoothly and something went wrong and now my phone keeps restarting never getting to the unlock screen. What can I do to at least get it back to normal?
i downloaded everything needed and i still cant unlock my iphone 3g when i start the quickpwn and it says browse it says firmware wrong..
something about firmware string failed i dont know what to put??

Did you already upgrade your iPhone 3G to 2.2.1? If you did then you cannot unlock your iPhone 3G because your baseband permanently got upgraded. If you didn’t then follow the steps below to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 3G.
1. Download a custom firmware 2.2.1 file from here.
2. Launch iTunes, shift-click restore and select this firmware file.
3. Once you have restored to this firmware you can download yellowsn0w from Cydia to unlock your iPhone 3G.
I decided to install this software. Everything worked great, now can I put my contacts back on the phone (through backup-restore in itunes) or will that reset everything?
Yes you can do that. Only restoring/updating the firmware resets your iPhone.
How to jail break my ipod touch 2g?

I stumbled on this site last week after many unsuccessful attempts of jailbreaking and unlocking an iphone that I purchased privately from some one with the 2.2.1 firmware. I tried izphone…didnt work! I purchased a jailbreak kit online that didnt work!!! I do not know if I have a 2g or 3g phone but this is the ONLY program that actually jailbroke my phone!!! the only problem that i encountered while jailbreaking was that if you check the box that ask if you want to unlock the phone, the next screen brought me to a page asking for the bootloaders and i had absolutely no idea what the hell was a bootloader!!! through google search i found a site and dl’ed the bootloaders to my PC and the rest is history!!! Im on the TMobile network and my iphone is working perfectly without the loos of any icons or apps!!!! Thanks!!

so you can? downgrade your modem baseband or just like QuickPWN said it is permantly got upgraded. if any one knows how to downgrade the baseband please post this info i will try to see if i can restore to an early firmware and see if this will be able to to reset the baseband
heres what i did
1. downloaded the quickpwn tool from the link on this page
2. downloaded the itouch G1 2.2.1 restore file
3. ran quickpwn up untill the point it says its restarting in the new format or w/e, at which point nothing happens. an hour after i hit this point, with the ipod flickering on and off every 10 mins or so, i closed quickpwn. my itunes also locks up when the ipod is plugged in (ipod is stuck with apple on the screen)
is there any way i can restore it to factory settings or continue with the jb?
Unhiding cydia is ridiculously easy. Can’t believe this is all it takes. Go to setting s—-> General —> Restrictions —-> Turn it on and create a password —> Home button —-> Settings —–> General ——> Restrictions ——> Turn it off……and go back to home….it should now pop up.

Hi, tried using quickpwn but it stops about 1/4 of the way on the browse for ISPW screen. I tried installing version 2.2.1 again manually by clicking restore and shirft on itunes, but it says error 1403. I have already put my ipod touch in recovery mode. im stuck.

The linked QuickPWN and iPhone 3G 2.2.1 firmware on this page give me “Firware error string” during “Browse for firmware” when trying to jailbreak my iPhone 3G 16GB currently running 2.2.1. Is the linked firmware truly the correct one for the 3G?

This is very good software, but I get to the stage were it needs to reboot and it just doesn’t, it shows the pineapple logo then just keeps restarting, doesnt do nothing else!

Try powering down your iPhone until it turns off. Turn it on again and put it in DFU mode. This video shows how you can put it in DFU mode:

Once your iPhone is in DFU mode download firmware 2.2.1, launch iTunes and shift-click Restore, select the firmware 2.2.1 and let it restore. Once it’s restored try using QuickPWN again to jailbreak it. Download QuickPWN from http://www.quickpwn.com/downloads this time. If you get stuck on any part then ask for help in the forums.
