Jailbreak iPhone 2.2

Apple recently released firmware 2.2 for the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 1st Gen, and iPod Touch 2nd Gen. The Dev Team is hard at work and they plan on releasing a jailbreak for firmware 2.2. As of right now the jailbreak iPhone 2.2 has now been released. If you’re using a jailbroken iPod Touch or iPhone then I highly recommend upgrading. It’s really worth the upgrade because of all the new features it has. There is still no copy and paste!

Here is a list of the iPhone 2.2 firmware features (taken from Apple’s website):

  • Enhancements to Maps
    • Google Street View*
    • Public transit and walking directions
    • Display address of dropped pins
    • Share location via email
  • Decrease in call setup failures and dropped calls
  • Enhancements to Mail
    • Resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email
    • Improved formatting of wide HTML email
  • Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular network)
  • Improved stability and performance of Safari
  • Improved sound quality of Visual Voicemail messages
  • Pressing Home button from any Home screen displays the first Home screen
  • Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings

iPhone 2.2 FAQ

1. Can I jailbreak iPhone 2.2/iPod Touch 2.2 with QuickPWN or PwnageTool?
Not yet, the DevTeam is working hard on a jailbreak right now.

2. Can I jailbreak iPod Touch 2nd Gen on 2.2 firmware?
Unfortunately not because the iPhone is the DevTeam’s main focus right now.

3. Can I unlock the iPhone 3G 2.2 firmware?
No, so don’t upgrade to 2.2 if you want to unlock your iPhone 3G. There is no iPhone 3G 2.2 jailbreak and the DevTeam advises you not to update if you want an unlocked iPhone 3G. The DevTeam will be releasing an iPhone 3G 2.1 unlock jailbreak once it’s out.

A complete guide on how to jailbreak iPhone 2.2 will be posted here once the jailbreak is released. Subscribe to this blog to stay updated.

Hey guys, if anyone is still having problems JAILBREAKING or even UNLOCKING their iPod or iPhone on 2.2 give me an e-mail. mrwashboard@hotmail.com

As i have successfully unlocked the 3g 2.2 firmware with a Turbo Sim (it was 18 dollars free shipping on Ebay, and it took freaking 12 days for it to get to me…but it works!)

As for Jailbreaking, It works the EXACT same way as it did before, just make sure that you have the ipsw file in your itunes ipod or iphone update folder and it will automatically find your ipsw, or save it locally, like your desktop and browse for it. You download the ipsw’s from here, OR if you have NOT upgraded to 2.2 through itunes then you can get a modified version of the ipsw from demonoid or your favorite torrent provider.

Other than that, if you have questions then e-mail me, as i will NOT be keeping an eye on this bulletin, so ANY comments to me MUST be e-mailed to me.

good luck, and happy hunting. (oh, and one more thing, with the new piggy back sims that are available, you can use the 3g option now!). peace!
    V1×0r

    p.s.

Dev team is releasing a software unlock by the end of this year…so if you wait 1-2 weeks that should be out. peace!

I’m not getting anywhere with this!!!! I’ve tried quickpwn and it just kept telling me i was using the wrong file for my phone. tried winpwn, the icons don’t line up on the screen and i can’t use it at all. so, got quickpwn2.2 now, but i can’t get the phone into the mode. tried following the timers, and every time the timers run out before my phone has done anything and the software tells me i haven’t done it right….mine take 12 seconds to come back on, not 10. I’ve tried following the counter, beating the counter. everything, same result every time. HELP!!

    it’s a 3g BTW…

has anyone used their unlocked iphone abroad? i just moved to argentina, and i’ve attempted to jailbreak my iphone 2.2 using quickpwn 2.2 (mac) and i believe i walked thru the whole process accurately and was successful. but when i tried popping in the local sim card, i was prompted by itunes that it is not a compatible carrier… i don’t think i should be receiving such a message if the phone is actually unlocked, right? help would be greatly appreciated – thoughts?

Hello, this is my first post on this blog and i’m a total noobie to jailbreak the iphone! I have an iPhone 3G italian version (with Vodafone Italia carrier) that is not sim-locked by default! I’ve updated it to 2.2 with iTunes last month, cause I didn’t know of this problem!
Now i need to jailbreak it, cause I need to install netshare to use it as a modem for my brand new MacBook nano (msi wind u100 with leopard 10.5.6) and the unlocked version of fring to make skype calls also on 3g network and not only on wifi!
I use this iPhone for business so I haven’t the chance to remain without it for many days (due to many failures in trying to jailbreak) and haven’t much time to spend trying to jailbreak it!

So what can I exactly do to jailbreak it?
Do I have to restore a previous version of firmware (e.g. 2.1) with iTunes and then proceed with the above instructions with Quickpwn or PwnageTool?
    Or what?
Please reply to my post, cause I really need this infos and, as I see in all the forums and blogs that talk of iphone jailbreaking, there are many guys in the same situation and no one has or gives an answer!!!

Thank you so much in advance!!!

I have a factory 3rd Generation iPhone 8gb (black back). I am trying to sell it overseas so I tried jailbreaking the phone with pwnagetool 2.2.1

It claimed to be successful and now it is not recognized on any windows computer only mac.

To make matters worse, the phone is asking to connect to iTunes.

  19. Mark says:

    PLEASE HELP!!!

    I have a black iPhone 3G 8GB running v2.2.

I tried to jailbreak the phone and followed all of the instructions. Everything seemed to go fine, I saw the statusbar and a running pinapple logo on my iPhone and it also confirmed it had completed on my WinXP computer.

However it said it would reboot but it will not go past the black loading screen with the Apple logo! Every once in awhile the screen will flash white and/or the phone will vibrate in bursts of two every once in awhile.

I tried to connect it to my iTunes, but it will not recognize the iPhone at all, so I can not do a factory restore on it.

I am freaking out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please email me any suggestions at markamccray@gmail.com.

    Thank you everyone!!!
