Jailbreak iPhone 2.2

Apple recently released firmware 2.2 for the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 1st Gen, and iPod Touch 2nd Gen. The Dev Team is hard at work and they plan on releasing a jailbreak for firmware 2.2. As of right now the jailbreak iPhone 2.2 has now been released. If you’re using a jailbroken iPod Touch or iPhone then I highly recommend upgrading. It’s really worth the upgrade because of all the new features it has. There is still no copy and paste!

Here is a list of the iPhone 2.2 firmware features (taken from Apple’s website):

  • Enhancements to Maps
    • Google Street View*
    • Public transit and walking directions
    • Display address of dropped pins
    • Share location via email
  • Decrease in call setup failures and dropped calls
  • Enhancements to Mail
    • Resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email
    • Improved formatting of wide HTML email
  • Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular network)
  • Improved stability and performance of Safari
  • Improved sound quality of Visual Voicemail messages
  • Pressing Home button from any Home screen displays the first Home screen
  • Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings

iPhone 2.2 FAQ

1. Can I jailbreak iPhone 2.2/iPod Touch 2.2 with QuickPWN or PwnageTool?
Not yet, the DevTeam is working hard on a jailbreak right now.

2. Can I jailbreak iPod Touch 2nd Gen on 2.2 firmware?
Unfortunately not because the iPhone is the DevTeam’s main focus right now.

3. Can I unlock the iPhone 3G 2.2 firmware?
No, so don’t upgrade to 2.2 if you want to unlock your iPhone 3G. There is no iPhone 3G 2.2 jailbreak and the DevTeam advises you not to update if you want an unlocked iPhone 3G. The DevTeam will be releasing an iPhone 3G 2.1 unlock jailbreak once it’s out.

A complete guide on how to jailbreak iPhone 2.2 will be posted here once the jailbreak is released. Subscribe to this blog to stay updated.

    Read my instructions above…

It's already unlocked if you have already unlocked/jailbroken 2.1.

I didn't check unlock from quickpwn, and it works. I'm not using AT&T btw.

I just upgraded to jailbroken 2.2 from 2.1 by updating via iTunes and then using Quickpwn on a Mac. I now get NO SERVICE!

I read people here saying uncheck the “unlock” option in Quickpwn if your using ATT but I do not see that option!

    HELP PLEASE!

Ok I fixed my problem. I had to restore to factory settings and then use QuickPwn again. Now it works fine. Have to reinstall all my Apps which sucks but at least it works.

Pretty sure the problem came from me having iTunes open when I ran QuickPwn. My bad, I did it via windows last time so I thought I had to have it open.

But for anyone trying to fix the NO SERVICE problem. Restore to factory, then run QuickPwn with iTunes closed. Worked for me.

If I have a 3g 2.1 and It is jailbroken. DO I up just grade my phone to 2.2 and everythings the same, or do I have to upgrade it and then jailbreak it again? Or do I have to reset it to factory originals, update it, then jail break it?
