what i understand, if your phone was jail brok before 2.2 release you can use most recent quickpwn to ulock updated 2.2 firmware of your phone...if your phone NEVER being jailbroke before and now you updated to firmware 2.2 via iTunes, when you run recent quickpwn you get stuck at the point were you went to restore mode, nothing happening...

i think thats were the problem!!!???

I am having the same problem. My phone has never been jailbroken and I am trying to do it for the first time. I get to the point where it says "Quickpwn is about to to run on your iPhone 3G." and it does nothing from there. Just before that starts iTunes launches, says waiting for iPod, and gives me this error: "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. An unknown error has occurred (2001)." Then QuickPWN freezes.

Log file looks good:

Everything works fine for me. I have 2.2 I downloaded it last night, then waited today for the updated 2.2 jailbreak and I downloaded that and it worked great.

THANKS

I only have two questions though, what was the name of the program that allows you to have 5 icons on the bottom of the screen and the one that if you double click the home button it brings up a search engine?

Thanks,

FOR APP THE PPL STUCK AT :

""Quickpwn is about to to run on your iPhone 3G""

I believe it's a problem with Late 2008 macbooks and DFU mode.
Can you report if you're using a LATE 2008 macbook please ?

BTW I can't find a fix to this problem. I think developers should clarify things asap.

After having a Jailbroken 2.1 G3, I decided to upgrade to 2.2 then jailbreak with the new Quickpwn. Everything went (more or less) according to plan but now I am unable to get Mail to do anything more than crash if accounts other than .Mac are enabled. I've restored back to plain-vanilla 2.2 and haven't had the Mail crash problems. Incidentally, I ran the "Fix Disk Permissions" feature in BossPrefs on the jailbroken 2.2 but that didn't help...

So, I will run clean 2.2 for a few hours then try to jailbreak again... More to come! ;-)

I have an iTouch 1G.. (i also have an iPhone 2G & iPhone 3G, but I'm leaving those at 2.1 PWN).. anways back.. to my iPod 1G, yes I managed to upgrade 2.2 ... and used quickpwn (windows) it all ran perfectly.

Only 1 Issue, i selected to install "Installer" & "Cydia" after the restarting of the iPod(after quickpwn), only "Cydia" appears, and "installer" is was not installed(or not shown on the SMB)

Ohh well WTE even though i never use "installer", Cydia is way much better & faster. =P

Anyways i tested everything on the iPod after the 2.2 PWN, everything else works Perfectly.

I found th solution about the DISAPPEARANCE of Apps, not shown when installed, also if you do not have "Cydia" & Installer" shown after QuickPWN ... its simple it is INSTALLED

all you need to do is Download "Categories" and well Make a Folder, and when you hit ADD, you should see it there to add in the folder, after wards you shall see it is inside your Folder.

;) So in other words Apps Not Shown in Springboard, after install simply use Categories, to have it Shown

Anonymous
November 23, 2008 at 1:35 AM

i have the same problem, how do i download categories if i cant see cydia!!!

also i believe the problem was that i had cydia in a folder before i updated and jailbroke, isnt there a quick fix plist file i change some info for, n e one know??

Can anyone please help me?
I have an itouch 2gen and I updated yesterday not knowing that there was a jailbreak for the itouch. I restored my itouch and downloaded the 2.2 ipsw and ran quickpwn. But when I open the file it says error string or something like that. Is it because I updated yesterday? If so can it be fixed or do I have to wait for another itouch update?

November 23, 2008 at 2:36 AM

@ Govind - you have to make sure that you activated your iPhone in itunes before you quickpwn i think, otherwise there is no signal.

about the new MacBooks - has anyone got quickpwn 2.2 working on theirs? I don't want to try it on my new replacement 3G if its going to brick it...

I had the missing Cydia and Installer issue as well. What worked for me was to delete the Springboard plist file. You can use iPhone Browser (http://code.google.com/p/iphonebrowser/downloads/list) to access the root directory of your jailbroken iPhone. The file to delete is:
/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist
After you delete it, reboot and all missing icons will reappear.

hello as another newbie to jailbreaking is concerned here is how i did it and it WORKS!!!
iphone 3g with 2.1 already jailbroken with at&t
first i was all worried but then i went ahead and did it
ok
step 1 get quickpwn 2.2
step 2 update itunes to 8.02
step 3 update already jailbroken 2.1 3g with itunes (big download from itunes)
step 4 close itunes and start quickpwn
step 5 it finds the new .ipsw that you just downloaded click next
step 5 follow the ONSCREEN PROMPTS IN QUICKPWN EXACTLY
step 6 phone will reboot
step 7 open installer and redownload your apps
same for cydia
pps qik rocks!!
www.qik.com
hope that helps
worked for me and i was very nervous doing it

"With this newer QuickPWN you can jailbreak to the latest 2.2 firmware on your iPhone/iPod Touch."

besides i see on many forums that people have their ipod touch 2g jailbroken

Chris O
November 24, 2008 at 12:47 PM

I just jailbroke for the first time right after updating to 2.2 and updating iTunes using QuickPWN. Very smooth in every respect EXCEPT that sound is now missing from a lot of the device.

Anyone else experience minor issues with broken sound ?

the iPod works, YouTube works, ringtones work, however the unlocking 'click' is gone and sounds in games (official App Store stuff like Fuzzle) don't work no matter what settings I seem to change.

Any suggestions? I'm having a lot of trouble finding anything relevant with Google.

Chris O
November 24, 2008 at 1:12 PM

Well, I totally take that comment back. Same problem as dpgranger: I open the Phone icon and it displays an unusable keypad for 3 seconds, then closes. My ringtone DOES NOT work when a call comes in even though it plays when selected in settings, and when I'm in the middle of a call and hit the home button, the "Touch to return to call" bar doesn't work.

Really put my opinion of this in the shitter, I must say. I'm using a new iPhone 3G, carrier-locked, nothing weird and never previously jailbroken, so I gotta wonder... did you guys properly test this release, or just excitedly slam it out as close to 0day as possible? You probably should've tested the phone part of the phone a little bit more...

I'm going to have to abandon this whole JB thing pretty much immediately unless this stuff is quickly resolved. Having a pocket NES is nice, but having an iPhone was way, way better.

Chris O
November 24, 2008 at 1:31 PM

and after a tiny bit more testing: when a call comes in and I answer it, the screen freezes, although the call does come through. no keyboard, no hold, no way to hang up, none of that.

i think i'm gonna be telling everyone who asks about jailbreaking in future "if you want your Apple product to be buggy like Linux, go nuts"

ok here is my question. i have a iphone 2g with 2.0.1 firmware that i used with quickpwn. i currently use tmobile so it is unlocked. if i use the 2.2 firmware and quickpwn it will it remain unlocked or only jailbreak the phone.

according to what i have read it only works if it is jailbroken with quickpwn before(all of you out there that are trying this for first time you ahve to have previous firmware from quickpwn before upgrading).
someone correct me if i am wrong but
1. download windows quickpwn
2. upgrade to 2.2 via itunes
3. run quickpwn

4. hopefully jump for joy

November 24, 2008 at 6:31 PM

I solved my problems.

Oddly enough, the solution to the broken phone issue (it was bad, I couldn't even answer calls, I had to lock the phone just to see the caller ID on the lock screen to call them back!) was the opposite of what many people were saying about the 2.1 JB... instead of uninstalling Kate, I installed Kate and just turned off all its useless features in the RiP Dev preferences under Settings (all its useless features = everything except the sexy system font changer)

I don't want Kate, but for some reason she's propping up my phone.

As for the sound problems I was having........ Step #4 on this Apple page resolved it: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1205

...yeah, I had the switch above the volume controls set to silent. *BLuSH*

If after the jailbreak you can't make dial calls because the phone dialer freezes and goes back to the main menu, try this:

1- Uninstall Kate from Installer: this is what everyone recommends, seems to work for a lot of people but didn't work for me.

2- Then go to Installer again and uninstall these apps:

A) Mobile enhancer
B) RIP DEV preferences

3- Reboot your iPhone.

That's what I did and got my dial pad back again.

Hope this helps someone, I spent like three hours searching for a solution...

I too am having the ""Quickpwn is about to to run on your iPhone 3G"" problem. I let it sit there for about an hour came back and it was exactly as I left it.

I have a MBP V.10.5.5 OS X
Iphone 3G 2.2 that was a jailbroken 2.1

I downloaded the restore.ipsw file and had it available in the same folder QuickPwn was in but nothing. Please fix this guys!

This did work for me, but I have a BUG REPORT for the developers:

The software claimed "No iPhone 3G bundle found" even though I had updated my 3G to 2.2 just hours earlier. The .ipsw was sitting right where Apple put it, in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates. The software should know to look there and not make me re-download the 260Mb software all over again. OR it should at least allow me to navigate to the existing .ipsw file or tell me where it's looking for it.

After that, it installed fine and I had no problems with error strings or with Cydia--all was well.

I also have the "Quickpwn is about to to run on your iPhone 3G" problem, the only similar trend I am seeing is that we all use MBP's! Could Apple have somehow blocked this on these new MBP models?!

+1 for the issue with late 2008 mbp getting stuck at "Quickpwn is about to to run on your iPhone 3G"

November 28, 2008 at 10:39 AM

Second BUG REPORT for the developers in addition to the one above--and I fear this one is much worse:

The "Phone" app will not run after restoring my Phone with QuickPwn. Tries to run for a few seconds and then crashes. Every other app works but Phone is dead. Rebooting no help. As a result I cannot recommend this app. Wait for a bug fix to come out that keeps the iPhone fully functional.

I have an 3G iPhone which I had Quickpwned with firmware 2.1 via iTunes and which I later upgraded to firmware 2.2. I also tried to Quickpwn the 2.2 firmware with my late 2008 MBP and got the "Quickpwn is about to to run on your iPhone 3G" problem. BTW: several times iTunes had started and tried to interfere, although I had disabled all auto-sync options.
Then I tried the same on an old Intel Mac-Mini. This time iTunes also interfered, but when QuickPwn changed into the "ihaz Success" screen with the message "Quickpwn is about to to run on your iPhone 3G", then this time some progress bar appeared on the iPhone and apparently something happened: I got progress bars with "Flashing NOR", "Installing bundles", and "Syncing filesystems". THen the Apple logo appeared again.
I was already happy but instead of really rebooting the iPhone got into a large endless loop: it shows the Apple symbol and every about 5 minutes a vibration happens, and sometimes a reboot. After about half an hour I stopped the loop and tried the whole procedure again. But with the same frustrating result.
THen I tried it a third time, but this time I did not stop the iTunes, which again popped up during the process. And whether coincidence or not: now it worked fine until I had a jailbreaked iPhone 2.2.
Apparently the Quickpwn software would benefit from some further tuning, but sure I don't complain at all.

I have a first generation iphone. I had cracked it using ziphone and it worked just fine. However, I recently upgraded to the newer iphone software and ziphone could not crack the phone. I then tried to restore the original iphone software using Pwnage tool and that did not work. The best has been to use QuickPwn 2.2. Now everything works, and it syncs with itunes, however it I cannot make or obtain phone calls or texts. It simply states "No service" On the top left. Can someone pleeeeeeeze help me.

If you are missing icons (because you hid them) from a previous jailbreak you may not see that cydia and installer were in fact installed. You need to download DiskAid
http://www.digidna.net/diskaid/
and get into /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/
and delete the file called com.apple.SpringBoard.plist reboot and all missing icons will reappear.

I'm having a regularly-repeating problem but its not a bug that I can consistently trigger... its something that happens after my phone has been sitting locked for a little while and then I go to use it again, no matter what I try to launch it seems like the app/feature is launching and then it just quits back to the home screen. I have to reboot the phone before it works again, and I can't just reboot it using SBSettings or it will go into safe mode every time.

Because of my halfway solution for my phone problem (installing but disabling Kate) I'm reluctant to go through trying to uninstall Kate and all the other RiP Dev stuff, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if its RiP Dev's fault... so far they've left me with nothing but the taste of shit in my mouth and random junk lingering on my phone. Honestly, I'd really appreciate it if in future QuickPWN gave me an accessible option of not even packaging Installer or any of RiP Dev's stuff when doing the initial jailbreak. I have all their stuff hidden and so far don't see why I'd ever wanna use it...

Thanks for the update.

Alas, however, you have used the evil rapidshare for a mirror. Please use Mediafire instead, it is free for everyone, has no wait times, does not check for your IP address (rapidshare fails for tor anonymous networks) and most importantly, the download speed is not throttled.

Here is the mirror: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nltujnezrmx

One more thing: Mac (as in QuickPWN for Mac or Mac OS X) is spelled with small a "a" and "c", not as "MAC". Mac is NOT an acronym (rather it is a short form of Macintosh) and is a proper noun so please respect that.
The same applies to names like Samantha (Sam, not SAM) or Alexander (Alex, not ALEX). If you can spell the names of people properly I trust that you can spell Mac correctly as well.

On a side note, MAC stands for something totally unrelated to Mac OS X or Apple: Media Access Control in networking (as in MAC address). Mac and MAC are two totally different and unrelated things.

No need to apologize, it's just a common mistake that Windows users/new Mac converts often make. Be sure to spread the word

Greeting's everyone, first i want to give a big thanks to the Dev team and everyone who is apart of this great thing, well i have been reading on here and other sites and of course google my @ss off trying to get rid of this No Service issue i have been having since getting off of 1.1.4 i was working with an org 8g iphone running 1.1.4 and i am on official ATT but not with the iphone plan i used ziphone to jailbreak and Hacktactivate phone all this on a mac. when i used the new version of quick pwn it did everything except give me service, thinking that something went totally wrong and after many attempts with quickpwn and pwng (without unlocking) it stills with both programs did not work, i was able to get a new org iphone from apple and went home and just restored to 2.1 and quickpwn 2.2 and still no deal i also try pwng no deal, i also tried to downgrade back to 1.1.4 i have a pc running true itunes 7 which i mean not downgraded back from an earlier version i also have another pc laptop that had itunes 8.02 and i tried it on a mac running itunes 7.5 and also a pc that was properly downgraded to 7.5 when plugging the iphone in i get mesg you must be running the newest version of itunes to use this phone, the pc also see's the phone as a camera, also putting the phone in true DFU mode the computers (all of them) do not see the phone at all. i also tried changing the lockdown file ssh into the phone using cyber duck and following directions that way changing it to 644 but still nothing. the only thing i did not do was downgrade the baseband because 1 i dont want to unlock it and 2 if i am running iphone os 2.1 or 2.2 and i try to downgrade baseband i am not sure if the older version of itunes will even work and i dont' want to end up with a paper weight. i have tried this over and over again on my previous phone about 10 or more times and on the newer one that i have about the same amount of time. if anyone has any tips or might know of another method please share it with me here in the blog or sdge@hotmail.com i consider myself a noob but have been using the iphone since the beginning and also jailbreaking and this is the first time that i have had a real big problem like this, oh the Carrier says (null null) and is running the newest firmware for iphone 1st gen on 2.2 i hope the Dev team is silently working on a fix, or maybe not enough people are having this problem, but i thought i would share it with everyone because i have been online day and night trying to fix this reading and trying stuff out and still no go.

Thanks for anyones help

can't believe there's not going to be jailbreak for ipod touch 2nd gen.. OK, just found out this disturbing result:

PwnageTool and QuickPwn does NOT WORK on new MacBook with Aluminium Uni-body (13 inch / 15 inch), and there is NO FIX WHATSOEVER. This seems to be a combination of hardware and OSX mash up that prevent transferring data when you're in DFU mode.

Once I got into DFU mode, I got error 2001 and PwnageTools said all is done and to go to iTunes and select the custom firmware. Well, iTunes keep giving error 2001.

Googling the Internet, it seems that even PwnageTool 2.2.1 does NOT fix the issue, Apple still block attempt to install custom firmware from DFU mode.

UPDATE: tried on a different MacBook (13 inch, previously I use Pro) that is also aluminium body, and same error 2001. Tried with QuickPwn on both the new MacBook and MacBook Pro, and QuickPwn just hangs after entering the DFU mode. The iPhone screen is still black though, so it is still in DFU mode.

QuickPwn WILL UPDATE the BASEBAND, so looks like Apple to-date has been successful in stopping people from SIM-unlocking the device...

Hi,

I have a legally unlocked (Belgian) iphone 3G.
After jailbreaking the phone i had the "no signal issue". Didn't have the issue on 2.1jb firmware. I'm now back to non-jb 2.2 firmware. I have to say my device runs far more stable than on 2.1jb. But i miss my ssh-server and bite-sms :-(

To the dev team: thanks for the efforts you made on this project, it really is amazing what has been accomplished. Only minor point is communication.
Oh, and regarding priorities, ask 100 people:
"would you rather have a jbed iphone or an iphone with Linux?"
:-)

Does anybody know how to fix the disabled call function after jailbreaking from v 2.2? Thanks

Anonymous
December 13, 2008 at 11:41 AM

So as I understand it now, If you jailbreak your phone from v2.2, you will end up with a phone that WILL NOT MAKE CALLS but will function as an ipod touch. As it is now, you can downgraded back to v2.1, but this will not fix the issue because the v2.2 BASEBAND can not be altered or downgraded. So if you bought a phone with 2.2 installed, or if you upgraded to 2.2 already, you will be out of luck until the DEV team comes up with a solution. Hope this helps you guys and please comment if any of this can be corrected. Please hurry Dev Team!

hi i have an iphone 3g here in kenya and it is currently locked to the orange network. getting turbo sim n other sim tools to unlock is very hard. i was wondering would it be possible to modify the parameters of my SIM card via a tool e.g WIN SIM pro, to allow for my iphone to be recongized on the other networks? is this plausible? essentially a script that one could use that configures the SIM card to be accepted on the Iphone? any comments are appreciated.

Hello there people/Devs! I really, really need help here with trying to jailbreak my first generation, software 2.2 iphone. I have downloaded quickpwn already, and tried to jailbreak my iphone *7*! times!. It works through everything, although when it says something like, "Iphone jailbreak is complete, we will now reboot your iphone"(something like that) and my iphone starts to reboot, (at the apple logo), it stays there forever??? It has done this 7 times in a row, and i just want my darn phone jailbroken (not unlocked). please help me; if needed email me at menehune_808@yahoo.com thanks :)

have a iphone 1v (2g)
Used pwnage tool to jailbrake to 2.1 for tmobile. Worked great.
Updated to 2.2 from Itunes, ran quickpwn, didnt install anything, had white screen for a longtime, then reboot, everything was stock 2.2. Somewhere someone suggested doing a restore, and the running quickpwn, now my phone is locked again, itunes wont let me activate, and quickpwn wont unlock. What shoulod I try now?

That above post was me...

Ok, I was able to restore to 2.1, then restore to 2.1 pwnage, and that fixed the phone. But when I went again to 2.2, it still has no cydia, and SSH wont connect....

Hi,
I bought a new iphone 3g a few days ago, uploaded by mistake to 2.2 on itunes. I bought the convert sim card (that u use with any sim to make it working). Unfortunatly, as i upgraded to 2.2 it s not working. I asked apple if it was possible to go back to 2.1 they told me, no. I want my belgium card working on it. What do you recomend me?

I tried to jailbreak my pone. I tried 4 times and still the same result. Everything ok, till itunes say it doesn t recognise it and that I have to restore it. I tried to use the iphone1.2.2.2SG77customrestore.ipsw but it doesn t open it. I can use it so only way is use the restore on the itune but then it s not jailbreak. Any advices, solutions?

To understand completly, when your phone is jailbreak , you have a new icone on your iphone and you need to download new apps from your phone only?
thanks for your help

dear all,

I'm using the late 2008 macbook pro, and tried jailbreaking my ipod touch 2.2. As with others who reported early, Quickpwn freezes. And as a few have suggested, perhaps the new macbooks are the reason why Quickpwn freezes at

2008-11-22 22:21:13 - Successfully built Quickpwn Ramdisk file.

If you are not able to start your ipod touch again, pls dun not fret, follow this link to a post written by a kind soul and all should be well:

TO ALL 1G IPOD TOUCH 2.2 USERS:

DOESN'T WORK!

It didn't work, when it was installed and rebooted the only thing that showed was the apple symbol in the center.

At first i freaked out but i managed to repair it:

-Plug ipod into computer (usb), make sure itunes is running
-Hold power and home butten until apple symbol appears
-when apple symbol appears, relaese power butten, but keep on holding home button
-when the ipod shows and image of itunes and a usb cable, release the home button
-you now will get an repair screen for the ipod, choose last option, repair from saved point
-Just wait and be relieved: itunes if fixing your ipod to its state before this dumb-ass jailbreaking software ;)

Hope it helped and remember: THIS SOFTWARE DOES NOT WORK FOR IPOD 1G 2.2!

Here's what worked for me - 1st Gen iPhone v2.2 [NOT 3G] - older MBPro at v10.5.5:

First, i backed up my phone image. Attempted QuickPwn and got stuck in the reboot loop where the phone shows only the apple. During the process, itunes opened up and complained that it couldn't recognize my phone. i acknowledged the alert and immediately shut down itunes. At this point, I have a reboot-looping iphone.

to fix this, i went into DFU mode while attached to itunes and restored the factory v2.2 firmware. when prompted, i selected my backup image copy to put back all my data. At this point, i now have the vanilla iphone [basic apps, but NO appstore apps] but with my mail, sms, etc intact.

QuickPwn again, but this time i did not shut down itunes after acknowledging it's complaint. Leaving it open while QuickPwn worked it's magic, my iphone was successfully jailbroken.

I hope this saves at least one person a little bit of time and effort when things go awry.

Thank you Anonymous!!! You just saved me much pain and suffering. I had the same call screen freeze up with same cause:

RE:

>>Anonymous Says :
>>November 25, 2008 1:42 PM

If after the jailbreak you can't make dial calls because the phone dialer freezes and goes back to the main menu, try this:

1- Uninstall Kate from Installer: this is what everyone recommends, seems to work for a lot of people but didn't work for me.

2- Then go to Installer again and uninstall these apps:

A) Mobile enhancer
B) RIP DEV preferences

3- Reboot your iPhone.

That's what I did and got my dial pad back again.

Hope this helps someone, I spent like three hours searching for a solution...

After HOURS of fiddling around _ I found a FIX to get your IPHONE 3G 16GB edition and probably others Jailbroken - Here's what I did:

I had a shitload of apps I bought from the Appstore and tons of contacts. I was attempting to Jailbreak my iPhone with QuickPwn and a download of the 2.2 firmware - My result, a fricken' pineapple and my phone that would vibrate - Was it a brick? Well for two hours it was...

Here's how I resolved the issue -

Take your Iphone - Open up Itunes (latest version works fine) - Plug your Iphone into your computer - Perform the process of entering your Iphone into Backup/Recovery (DTU) mode - Holding power + home for 10 sec, home button 10 sec, etc-

Once your Iphone is in DTU mode and Itunes recognizes that - Restore your Iphone as a "NEW Phone" - Do a complete blank install like your phone was a brick - DO NOT RESTORE ANYTHING FROM BACKUPS - SETUP the PHone as a NEW PHONE -

Once Itunes flashes the 2.2 Firmware to your phone and you get a globe on your phone that says "Activated" - You are ready to start the Jailbreak process -

That process means you can close Itunes and start QuickPwn and go through it's process of getting into DTU mode and having the software flash your device with it's modified firmware-

Long story short, DO NOT try to jailbreak your Iphone unless you have a FRESH Firmware install on your iphone with Absolutely no settings on than factory - Don't add contacts, don't add your music, don't do any of that shit until after you start the Jailbreak process..

Good luck and hope this saves you many hours - My shit works and after I jailbroke my phone, I was able to recover all my purchased applications and music from Itunes with no problem, in addition to being able to download all the shit that isn't available on the APpstore

to everyone freaking out... if you do everything right , your not gonna have a problem

if you dont understand how to do everything , jailbreaking isnt for you.

i just jailbroke my ipod with zero problems. so i can testify that its working 100%

the only reason i can attribute to people having problems is one of these things

1) u dont understand how to do the things nessicary for jailbreaking
2) ur using OS X 10.5.6 ( and didnt edit the files properly)

if you have the first problem , stop trying before you break ur iphone, otherwise , happy jailbreaking
