Jailbreak iPod Touch 2.1 GUI version!

Written By Hans Berger on Friday, September 12, 2008 | 5:01 AM

...

In my previous post I posted a jailbreak which required a lot of work. This jailbreak for iPod Touch 2.1 is completely GUI based. Just run the .exe after uncompressing the zip file and follow the on-screen instructions. It couldn't get any simpler than this! :)

Download the GUI jailbreak by using any of the download links below:

This post is outdated.  Go to http://www.quickpwn.com/downloads for downloads.

I have an iPod Touch Gen 1 2.0.2 jailbroken w/QuickPwn. Will this update me to 2.1 and save my jailbroken apps, etc? Or will I have to reinstall everything?

Guys, we only need a correct iPod1,1_2.1_5F136.bundle file to be able to use PWNAGE tool with an iPhone. I couldn't find this file anywhere yet :(

iPhone does not work, Quickpwn just wont load the iPhone ipsw. And I would NOT try it with an iPod one.

I have installed the 2.1 Firmware on my iPhone 3G ...
Running the latest QuickPwn Version but selecting the 2.0.2 FW in jailbreaking process has worked for me.

But i was praying silently during jailbreaking this way :p

More Infos ...

I haven't installed the Installer, just Cydia.

Cydia is running, but not as stabli as it was in 2.0.2. Sometimes the Links in the Homescreen aren't clickable.

I have installed _AND_ used following Apps successfully:

- BossPrefs
- Poof
- MobileTerminal
- NemusSync
- OpenSSH (has needed longer as normal to generate whatever it generates on the first connect)

This "Trick" is not recommended. The Fact that this worked for me doesn't mean that this will work for everyone. Try it with care ...

September 12, 2008 at 7:13 AM

My IPSW File (iPhone 3G, WinXP SP2) was located under:

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Applicationdata\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\

I've translated the pathnames from german to english.
Maybe there are typos ... but i think everyone can interpret this path by itself :)

hope this helps

Ok so let me see if i understand how this one works.

I have a jailbroken 2.0 ipod. I install 2.1 version from itunes like a normal update. Then use quickpwn with that same firmware to jailbreak it?

@_@ or do you use it for 2.1

jack
September 12, 2008 at 7:30 AM

it works... sort of. i did get it to jailbreak and my cracked apps do function now cause they broke once i updated. but now it takes forever to boot up. i also just tried to sync a new cracked app to it to see what would happen and it restarted my iphone. we'll see what happens next. we're probably better off waiting for a real jailbreak.

Same experience as jack has.
working on 1.generation iPhone; jailbreaked, activated and unlocked on 2.1 with Cydia and Installer installed and working.
And yes it takes forever to boot.

The method do NOT work for 2.generation 3G.

Question for Gargo, or Jack: Did either of you copy the MOBILEINSTALLATION off your phones before upgrade and then REinstall it afterwards?? Is the Boot time the only problem so far??

jack
September 12, 2008 at 7:45 AM

actually mine is a 3g. so it will work with the 3g, just with all the crap i posted already. i'm restoring mine right now. i'm thinking that the sync-restart error might have something to do with the mobileinstallation file... i might try it again. i might now. a real jailbreak will come soon anyway.

the browsing takes place on your computer not the ipod. make sure to read the directions all the way. you need to download the ipsw file if you don't already have it.

i didn't. it might be worth a shot... but that file needs to be replaced again in order to install cracked apps anyway. so i dunno.

like i said, when i try to sync it'll restart. and if you combine that with the length of time it takes to boot up... well it's just lame.

September 12, 2008 at 7:51 AM

how long would this take? QuickPwn says it's done, wait for iPod to reboot, but the iPod is just showing the Apple logo and not doing anything for a long time now.
Only the screen turned off and on twice but still the apple logo was there again.
Any ideas??

I had the 2.1 firmware before, and it wasn't jailbroken.

Gargo
September 12, 2008 at 7:53 AM

I was wondering what will not work with my jailbreaking method.
now i have the answer ... i can't synchronize AppStore Apps ... everytime i try, my iPhone will restart :D ...

Since downgrading to 2.0.2 doesn't work in my case i just have to wait for a "official" 2.1 jailbreak for iPhone 3G ...

By the Way: The LHC Webcams are funny. I'm waiting for the black hole to reach my town. that can be every second if the hole doesn't have to travel with the train. that needs 4hours for this distance :D

I have a unlocked, jailbroken 2g on 2.0.2 via Winpwn.
Can someone tell me If the following procedure is the correct one to get to a unlocked, jailbroken 2g running 2.1 ...

1) Copy mobileinstallation file OFF my phone & back it up..

2) Go into Itunes 8 and do an "update" thus leaving me with a unlocked, and UN-Jailbroken phone.

3) Use Quickpwn and tell it I have 2.0.2 and use the 2.0.2 firmware and let it quickpwn it even though its really on 2.1

4) Use Iphonebrowser or any other software to Copy the MobileInstallation file Back into place.

5) I then should have an unlocked, jailbroken 2g running on 2.1

Is this right? Has anyone completed the above procedure or can tell me BEFORE i try it, if theres somekind of flaw in what I am trying to do...

Thanks to all of you for your help!

Anonymous
September 12, 2008 at 8:04 AM

This is the set of instructions that actually do work on the IPOD:
1. RESTORE to 2.1, don't upgrade, it could mess the process up...

2. Download the link below (Its QuickPwn, with jfb392's bundles)

http://rapidshare.com/files/14455077...wnRC3.zip.html

(All Credit goes to jfb392 for the bundle)

3. Once downloaded, extract the .zip files with a Archiver, you can use any. If you dont have one, search for WinRAR, and install it.

*. Before you do anything to the actual iPod, and if its jailbroken, go to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework. Make a copy of the MobileInstallation file in there, on your desktop or something

4. Run QuickPwn. Pick iPod Touch. Then when it asks you to browse for the IPSW (iPod Software) file, pick the 2.1 Firmware file, and then go next.

5. Go through the steps in the Terminal. It sounds hard, but the steps are really really easy.

6. Once the QuickPwn Terminal process is done, the Pineapple, and then Spinning wheel should be up for a while, and it should reboot... dont worry its fine.

7. Now that the iPod is back to the home screen, CYDIA and INSTALLER ARENT THERE!!! OMG!!! Good! That how it should be.

8. If you didnt get the MobileInstallation from before, you have to go googling for it, i am not going to post it...

9. Now you have to download Total Commande, or any other file browser that works with the iPod through USB... Here a link of Total Commander, and the t-pot plugin for Total Commander to let you browse around the iPod. Installation for the plugin is in the second link.

http://code.google.com/p/t-pot/

http://www.ghisler.com/download.htm

11. Now on Total Commander or whatever you have, connect to the iPod and go to /System/Library/PrivateFrameWorks/MobileInstallation.framework

12. Now that your in there, make a backup of the MobileInstallation thats in your 2.1 iPod now somewhere where you can get to later, and after you get that done, get the MobileInstallation from 2.0.1 and drag it to the iPod and overwrite.

FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE WRITE PROTECTION!

In Total Commander, you have to drag the file from one side to another in Total Commander. So on the left, navigate to the spot where you have your MobileInstallation in, and on the left, navigate to the spot where it goes.

13. Now REBOOT your iPod... and Turn it back on...

14. Hurrah! You know have Cydia and Installer on there...

I am assuming that since the mobileinstallation file needs to be "fixed" on the ipod 2.1, that it probably needs to be "fixed" somewhere in the procedure on the iphone...

jack
September 12, 2008 at 8:06 AM

thinking about the mobileinstallation file: i think that the hacked one won't work in our case. think of it like this. the available hacked one is of 2.0.2. we use the 2.0.2 firmware in order to jailbreak our 2.1 iphone. the reason it restarts when trying to sync is probably because of that file. so switching the 2.0.2 file with another 2.0.2 file probably won't help. but if we reinstall the 2.1 then it'll probably work fine. that's what i'm betting anyway. i dunno if that'd have any effect on the boot time. and we'd still have to wait for someone to crack 2.1 mobileinstallation anyway.

I can confirm that the iphone can be jailbroken with quickpwnrc3. I used the 2.0.1 firmware when it asked for the currently installed version and then jailbroke it as normal.

The iphone boot up time takes a lot longer than ever before though.

How this worked for me

Running iPod Touch 1Gen v2.0.1 that is jailbroken
I updated my device to v2.1 via iTunes 8.0 (and lost my 3rd party apps....as expected)

When iTunes was done updating my Touch I did the following:

1. Located the restore file for this firmware version (iPod1,1_2.1_5F137_Restore.ipsw). It was located, by default, in myname/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates)
2. Copied the file to a flash drive (to move it over to my PC)
3. Copied the file from my Flash drive to the folder "QuickPwnRC3.Morphey.Version\Data\PwnmetheusBundles\iPod1,1_2.1_5F137.bundle) so that it is with the file Info.plist that is already in there

I then ran the utility and followed the directions exactly...When asked to browse to the .ipsw file I pointed to the file I just copied to the folder as shown in step 3. I then continued to follow the directions exactly...btw when asked to hold the button down for 30 seconds the instructions changed (for me) when there were about 21 seconds left....I let go of the button then anyway and let the utility do its thing. Back when I was asked I checked the boxes for "Installer" and "Cydia" but left the logo box unchecked (I wanted to get the apple logo back).

This all worked for me.

Bottom line...Update your jailbroken touch to fw v2.1 via iTunes
use the .ipsw restore file for version 2.1 in the proper folder in this utility and follow directions

matt

i don't understand the problem with restoring. when you sync your iphone/ipod it backs up all your stuff anyway. including game saves. if you updated to 2.1 on your own then you should still have it on your computer.

I hadn't found his instructions until a few minutes ago.

I ran quickpawn r3 gave it the 2.0.1 jailbroke it used iphonebrowser to put cydia in the app folder and named it stocks.app and had it running. Then I ran across this and figured I would see if it would work to get the rest of my apps working and after deleting the cache and restarting my phone it started constant reboots.

I've run into that same road block. It happens when you delete the cache file. I'm not sure if people have luck when they delete that file but I have yet to. At this point you will need to remove the usb cable and hold wait for it to restart its self once it does hold the power and home button until the iphone shuts off then let go of each button and connect the data cable. Hold the home button and tap the power button continue holding the home button until it enters recovery and restore your iphone to 2.1 or an older version if you wish.

Hi my name is Jonathan. I have jailbreak my ipod touch to version 2.0.2. Now can this program jailbreak IPOD touch version 2.1?

If after i have jailbreak to version 2.1, can I update my ITUNES to 8.0. Will the update read the iPod Touch or affect the iPod Touch?

Anyone reply please.

Works flawlessly on a 1g Ipod Touch 16gb. I restored my 2.0.2. jailbroken ipod touch to default IPOD 2.1 firmware 5F137. Then proceeded to the modified quickpwn and follow through the guide. Rebooted perfectly with cydia and installer on the menu =D

My ipod touch was with 2.1 firmware and I used this quickpwn and jailbroken it with iPod1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw because it does not support the iPod2,1_2.1.1_5F138_Restore.ipsw. After the process is completed, my ipod won't load, it stucks at the pineapple startup screen and keep restarting itself. Itunes can't recognize it either, so I can't restore my firmware. What can I do?

OKAY PEOPLE!
Yes! this will actually work with 2.1! despite what the program itself says! I have tried this with a 1st Gen 32GB iPod Touch, and it worked flawlessly, just keep in mind that you need to use iTunes to install OFFICIAL 2.1 FW, then use QuickPwn to modify the 2.1 FW, and install onto your Touch, I dont have an iPhone, so I dont know how that works out.

And btw, the path for the iPod restore files in Windows Vista is:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

for everyone who is not able to backup, cause itunes says the ipod is no more longer connected: you have to update your mobileinstallation via ssh. Search in google for "mobileinstallation for 2.1". then upload the file and change chmod to 775!

works perfect with mine!!

Just did my ipod touch. could not figure out how to go up from 1.1.5. Itunes just did not want to play, Quickpwn did not recognize version that version. I tried various tricks to upgrade to a legitimate 2.1 but ended up buying 2.1 and then quickpwn did it's magic without a glitch. Everything works fine, Itunes connections, mail etc. Even sshd into Ipod using winscp over wireless and installed new host file as described. No problems. Quickpwn rules

Ok.. I must really be missing something.. I tried this on my 1st Gen IPT. I started everything from scratch. Went from 2.0 to 2.1 legit with iTunes 8. Then I went to jailbreaking. Everything seems to work fine except when it gets to INSTALLING EXPLOIT BOOTLOADER... Then it just hangs. Nothing. I check the logs and the last thing to happen is...

Successful jailbreak.
Had 1.1.4 jailbroken. Shift-clicked restore and chose 2.0 f/w I downloaded. Clicked update in itunes to update to a legit 2.1 f/w. Synced my music/photos/some apps (probably not relevant). Ran quickpwn. Ipod rebooted, i still have all my apps, plus cydia and installer now. Thanks guys!

Once I get to the point where QuickPWN waits to go into Recovery Mode, it just doesn't do anything. My iPod goes to the USB/iTunes screen, and that's it. If I try restarting QuickPWN, it goes straight to having me hold buttons, which I do perfectly, and then tells me afterwords that it's in the wrong mode... wtf?!

September 21, 2008 at 4:14 PM

i am fucking smart, okay guys whoever is having the problem where the itouch does not start after finishing the process, this is what you have to do, your itouch doesnt start after you did the process, so do it again, this time when the quickpwn start puts your itouch in recovery mode, as soon as it finishes putting your itouch in recovery mode and you see the little usb and itunes on your itouch, and the quickpwn process highlights the hold home for 5 seconds, close down quickpwn, you should still have the recovery mode thing on your itouch, now open itunes and restore, sorry that you have to restore, but as far as i know you have to do it if not you are screwed, its not that bad, i only have 85 of the apple apps jaja it takes 3 hours to put them back, but yeah just do that and keep trying to jailbreak those itouches :)

Hi everyone,
This QuickPWN is a very nice tool but with my "factory unlocked" iphone 3g it's a waste.

It would be nice if you'd release a version that only installes SSH, InstallerApp and Cydia and leave the rest untouched or just skips the jailbreaking steps.

I searched the web and found no alternatives to do that.. there are some tutorials but they all need SSH.

ABSOLUTELY no restore from than on. Nothing works. Itunes 8 - restore to 2.1

iTunes 7.7 - restore to 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2

iTunes 7.5 - restore to 1.1.4

everytime I try to restore after my phone restarts during the restore process I get error 160?

nothing helps ! I think its totally bricked !

I am now 2.1, not this method though but the easier one, download the newest quickpwn(and i mean with the one with FW 2.1 written on it) and didn't even have to delete or copy mobileinstallation and some other stuff. just upgrade from my jailbreak 2.0.1 to 2.1 Legit... and quickpwn... and (my problem for the past few days with the old quickpwn, can't back up on itunes) now i can back up, with no problem, i can even install .... just upgrade, sync, back up, then quickpwn (http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/4404107/QuickPwn21-1.zip.4404107.TPB.torrent)
<<< use that one, coz i downloaded a quickpwn 2.1 but turns out it was the wrong one.. old one.... so use this one.....

cont.... just found out that you have to get mobileinstallation from the net, like the guy above said, google it mobileinstallation for 2.1... and well, you know the drill.. you need this to install for future apps, the old ones you already have will work out fine, but if you install a new one, well, error, so go get your fingers moving and get that mobileinstallation...

If you go to the page from the previous post you will download a file firmware bundle. The problem is, even though 2nd gen itouch use the 5F138 version if you try to use it on Quikpwn it will not accept (which makes sense if apple change the hardware completely the firmware is completely diffferent and Quickpwn doesnt recognize it as an iPOD firmware file). For now I guess we will have to wait. Please if anybody finds anything in any corner on the net with a jailbreaking program or jailbreaking method for iPOD touch 2nd gen I am sure all 2nd gen itouch owners would really appreciated.
