ok so how does it work, you upgrade from 2.0.2 to 2.1 (breaking jailbreak&unlock) and then run quickpwn to get them back?

do you get cydia and installer as well?

does it work like winpwn in the sense that you customize your partition, boot logos, etc?

I am on 2.0.1 right now, when I launched cydia and read info about the 2.1 jailbreaking, it says it also upgrades the baseband

Now, my phone is locked to my provider but I would want to unlock it when dev team has cracked it. Does upgrading to 2.1 and thus upgrading the baseband on the process still would allow me to unlock my phone? Or not?

Quite weird, I have a 2G iphone w/ 2.0.2 firmware. I had itunes and quickpwn open. I started the update in itunes to 2.1 and quickpwn crashed. no biggie. After the upgrade, my phone didn't say that it had a bad sim card (tmobile). It just went to the home screen. With all the apps from the app store. Granted I lost all the stuff from Cydia, and it's not jail broken yet. But this is the first time I've seen this. Anyone else?

There is clearly an issue with the latest version of QuickPwn for 2.1. I carefully followed the instructions in this blog posting. I got to the "The Pwnage process appears to have completed successfully screen" yet my iPhone is repeatedly rebooting. After about 2-3 minutes of the white apple screen it vibrates. Another minute or so later it vibrates. After about 5 more minutes, it reboots in an endless cycle. I know how to restore so no worries but for anyone else wondering if they should update... I wouldn't recommend it just yet. Hold off until the bugs are worked out. Let others (like me) report them first!

Using Vista Home Prem SP1 with iPhone 2.1 3G and latest QuickPwn from this blog posting.

MUST BE RUNNING ITUNES WHEN YOU DO THIS!!!!

So easy a 10 year old could do this.

I tried an older method of the 2.1 jailbreak with the downgrading of itunes and I would get the hanging screen with the vibrates, however this one worked so easily. Way awesome, I hated not having a background behind my icons!

Follow these steps, as this is what worked the 1st time 100% for me.

1. Download QuickPwn, and the Restore file "iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw"

2. Extract the QuickPwn zip and copy the firmware restore to that folder as well.

3. Plug your iphone into your PC directly do not use hubs, strait to the back!

4. Startup iTunes and make a backup of your phone (Just incase) and copy your pictures (just incase).

5. Run QuickPwn.exe

6. Follow instructions (I left out the boot logo change incase I bricked it I could return it)

7. After it finishes up on your phone which you will see the quickpwn software working, first you will see a hard drive picture with info on what its doing, then it will be followed by a picture of QuickPwn's logo then it will reboot after a few mins (2 mins for me)

8. BAM 2.1 Jailbroke iphone 3g

THANKS DEV TEAM!!!!

How is this different from the windows gui that was released for 2.1 jailbreak like 5 posts back?? That was a windows gui and it had the option to select iphone, ipod touch, or iphone 3g also...

I used that one to jailbreak to 2.1 my ipod touch, but with this post, it seems like I am missing something that the one 5 posts back seem to not have...?

Hi. I have successedfully jailbroken my iPhone 3G using QuickPWN 2.1 GUI. But to be honest it wasn't that easy. After the QuickPWN programs says "wait for your device to reboot..", my iPhone was stuck in the boot logo for quite sometime. The iPhone vibrates several times and it gets me worried sick. It doesn't boot at all. What I did was, while the iPhone was booting, I disconnected the USB cable, opened iTunes 8 and then re-attached the USB cable. The home screen showed up.

Another thing is when I delete applications from the Apple Store on the iPhone screen, sometimes the iPhone restarts by itself bringing you back to the boot logo. Does anyone know what causes this or how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Also when you turn off your phone and then turn it back on it takes a while to start up like 30-45 seconds.

But it is all good stuff again thanks guys for all your hard work....I have had my Iphone from day one using anyone but ATT thanks Dev Team and Iphonesimfree...

Upgraded two iPones to 2.1 then used the quickpwn. jail break was successful then installed AptBackup and did a restore to get all my Cydia apps back (this is great by the way) then after that any reboot causes the iPhone to et stuck on teh apple screen. i have restored and jailbroke both phone 2 times now. i'm not sure if it may be the AptBack or a program from cydia that is causing it.

On both phones the first time i used AptBackup to restore my cydia apps then used the reboot program from cydia and the both locked at the apple logo.

Hi!

I follwed the tutorial and updated my phone from 2.0.2 to 2.1. Everything worked fine but my problem is that I can not get 3G to work on my phone. I never get the symbol again on the phone and I can not connect to internet on it.

It worked fine with jailbreaked 2.0.2 and when I run the 2.1 from apple without jailbreak.

Any ideas or help would be very helpful!

IF STUCKT IN RECOVERY ON ITUNES LOOK HERE:

first delete this file: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306794

Then reinstall itunes and restart computer and iphone, then the recovery should work!

It's hard to read through all the notes above but for me it DOES work on iPhone 3G with 2.1 already installed (not previously pwned):

IMPORTANT : turn passcode off first!
I also opened itunes after it had rebooted the first time with the pineapple logo (or apple if you dont change) and closed quickpwn.

Appeared to be doing nothing but fully boote after about 10mins

Doesn't work even when I try to turn off passcode and disable auto lock. Still stuck in Recovery.

To those getting the:

"This application has stopped working" etc etc, with the "Check for Solutions Online" or "Close" options, this may help.

Make sure your iPhone is actually on IPSW 2.1 before trying to jailbreak. If you are on 2.02 (like I was) the app will crash.

If you need to update and are using a 2G iPhone you can download this:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-5202.20080909.gkbEj/iPhone1,1_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw

Then boot your iPhone into recovery mode. In iTunes when clicking "Restore" hold down the Shift key, and you can browse to the above file you downloaded to update your iPhone to.

ONLY after doing that you should have no problems.

Btw, I was using Windows Vista SP1 / iTunes 8.

Hope that helps

The dev team have once again, come out with a fantastic tool!

I beleive a lot of the issues that people are having are not so much with Quickpwn but, with their own OS.

I have read through with what seems, people 'demanding' issues are fixed. Remember, you pwn your phone at your own risk! The team work hard and long hours and we are very fortunate for them to release these tools so quickly after updates so we can all enjoy the benefits they provide and all for 'FREE'.

Most issues will resolve with people making sure they have the latest updates for their computers including the .net framework, ensuring that AV software is deactivated during the process and that their machines are in a clean state before proceeding.

If you are still having problems then I would suggest that you try on another machine using Quickpwn and then returning to your original machine to complete the restore.

GREAT WORK guys for this amazing Free tool and thank you for your time and effort you all put into this continuing project.

Why can't they come out with a fully automatic one like ziphone? seriously zibri's program is sweet you don't need to hold down all these buttons and you didn't have to search for your firmware seriously quickpwn guys are doing great improving all the time but i still don't see why they don't just make it fully automatic at least for the ipod touch... if you guys need donations or something to get out an automatic version then say so and i'll throw down money, what ever it takes to get that version out.

Please beware, that if you have the "five icon dock" installed on your Iphone/Ipod, you will be stuck in the "wheel of death" when you restore your iphone from backup after jailbreak. Uninstall this, or reinstall from Cydia before restoring backup in Itunes.

Hi guys (and girls).

My iPhone (3G with 2.1 from Apple) will not jailbreak (curious statement...) and I am looking for your help before I actually get INSAVE.

iPhone 3G, 2.1 running smooth... Quickpwn seems to do its thing just fine but when the iPhone (3G) reboots, it stays stuck on the Apple logo (vibrates, reboots, vibrates, reboots, etc.)

I have restored my iPhone with iTunes, downloaded another version of Quickpwn (just in case) and of the 2.1 firmware. I redid the whole thing and... SAME PROBLEM... Restored it again (back to the start).

Now, either the problem comes from my manipulations (is something important missing for the process described here) or the trick is elsewhere.

Can you please advise? (FYI, I used to run 2.0.2 jailbroken via Quickpwn as well, updated iTunes to 8.0, had it upgrade my iPhone 2.1 and THEN started messing around with Jailbreaking...)

Anonymous
September 22, 2008 at 3:14 AM

AGAIN: Hi guys (and girls).

A question: if I restore my iPhone again(to get it back to Factory settings), is it important that I do NOT restore it as a previously sync'ed device (thus declaring it as a 'new device') and do NOT install any app before running Quickpwn?

If so, should I quickpwn and THEN restore using a backup to get my (legit) apps back?

Anonymous
September 22, 2008 at 3:19 AM

Need help....I've tried this a few times now with no luck. Everything works up untill the point where it says "Wait for your iPhone to connect in Recovery Mode" then it does nothing else. My iPhone is in recovery mode but quickpwn doesn't seem to detect this. I've tried it with iTunes open but quickpwn just closes it.

[SOLVED] With problem jailbreaking (the 'Hi guys (and girls) guy)

YES, it is a problem if you do not make sure that iTunes does not sync' anything onto your iPhone BEFORE you jailbreak it... (for some NEW reason)...

SO, to make sure it doesn't sync' restore it and make sure you declare it as a new phone... BUT before that, make sure you have NO RINGTONE referenced in iTunes (otherwise it will synchronize them without asking you). ALSO, make sure that you uncheck all the automatic synchronization options when declaring the NEW IPHONE...

Then you can leave iTunes open, launch Quickpwn (which will kill iTunes and all related processes) and your Jailbreak will be possible (and SUPER FAST)...

I hope this helped (you atleast saved the 4 hours I just spent figuring that out).

Hi first a world of thanks to all these guys who try effortlessly to provide us with the best iphone unlocking tools

however I am on those unlucky few that although my pwnage completed successfully I had run to a few problems and thus I was forced to switch to the original firmware in order to have a working phone again.

Long story short I successfully pwned my iphone, installed openSSH, went to/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework changed the file and set the right permissions (all ok so far)

then I had to reboot my device and bam! The apple logo vibrating apple logo reboot etc etc... is there a workaround?

after using winpwn on 2.0.2 i just upgraded new firmware through itunes 8, my phone is still unlocked without using quickpwn not bothering to jailbreak again..

Anonymous
September 22, 2008 at 5:38 AM

I just hit the same problem as described above with the vibrating logo reboot etc. Iphone 3G, went from Jailbreak 2.0.2 -> 2.1 today. Happened at the same point as mentioned above with Mobileinstallation.framework etc.

This is how I got out of it (Sort of..) :
I put the phone into DFU restore and let it restore to original Apple SW. Somehow though I cannot get it back to the jailbreaked state it seems. It complains when I try to restore the older 2.0.2 custom OR the 2.1 custom into it so now I'll have to wait for an updated Pwnage tool...

Eric
September 22, 2008 at 7:24 AM

I too have had the vibrating logo reboot problem. I went from 2.0 (WinPwned) straight to 2.1. As far as I can tell so far, it seems to be tied to restoring my IPhone backup from ITunes. If I 'set up as new IPhone', I seem to be ok. I can re-sync all of my ITunes content and Outlook contacts and calendars, but of course, SMS history, call history, notes, etc. don't get copied, so it's annoying. I'm going to attempt to restore the backup again and see how it goes.

Anonymous
September 22, 2008 at 7:52 AM

The vibration/logo reboot is an issue mostly related to the 5 dock icon being previously installed and put back when backing up your phone...Leave it out and you should be okay...

Anonymous

Eric...

You go back to the previous custom FW 2.0.1...

Then put the back up on you phone...remove the 5 dock icon thingy...

Restore to 2.5 and quickpwn again...

Should take care of your problem...

If you don't care about a back-up just have it set up as a new phone in iTunes 8...

QUICKPWN HAS ENCOUNTERED AN ERROR AND NEEDS TO CLOSE MESSAGE.
This is how I got past this problem:
Once it gives the error that QuickPWN has encountered an error and needs to close, you leave it like that for like 5 minutes, pluged in. Do not touch the computer. Do no touch the ipod. After five minutes, you unplug the ipod and then plug it back in. That's all I did.
It worked for me! A window came up saying that it was downloading jailbroken database.
Good luck! Hope this helps!

Wow.. worked like a charm. Just to clarify, I upgraded directly from 1.1.4 to this new 2.1 firmware. None of the comments above stated you could do that. I followed the instructions on the blog link above, and it worked perfectly. Just make sure

- Uninstall the 5 dock app
- I tunes 8 is installed
- Back up all your stuff (I forgot to do this :(
- You restore to the latest 2.1 firmware
- Connect the USB directly to the USB port
- Read and follow the instructions on Quickpwn
- Just wait and do not unplug
- DO NOT X out of the program until phone reboots completely

It took me about 30 minutes for the whole process, but it worked beautifully. Thanks Quickpwn and Dev Team... you guys are awesome.

Just wanted to say, I used the original jailbreak that was released after 2.1 was released. After successfully doing that, I was missing my pineapple boot loader icon. However, everything else worked (Cydia and Installer). Long story short, I had a 3g iPhone, jailbroken and customized. I ran the Quickpwn tool over the jailbroken 3g phone, took 3 minutes, all of my jailbroken apps, settings, and phone are still there, and I got my pineapple back. Thanks, great job and tremendous work on the GUI.

Would any good man can tell me how long I should wait in the recovery mode?

1. No software crashes seen on Windows
2. The iPhone is freshly installed with 2.1 firmware through iTunes without doing any backup restore or syncing.
3. When running the quickpwn tool, the iTunes 8 is killed.
4. The iPhone is placed in recovery mode by the quickpwn and is displayijng the picture of "Connecting to iTunes"
5. Quickpwn is showing "Waiting for iphone to connect in recovery mode" and already lasts for 10 minutes.

Please suggest.

My iPhone is a 3G 16GB version from 3 where no simlock is enforced.

Many Many Thanks!

So I finally get it to work after having countless issues because I wasn't starting off with a factory restored iPod Touch that hadn't been synced.

Then, I install OpenSSH, and replaced MobileInstallation with the cracked one...went to restart it...BAM Bricked.

I either can't get QuickPWN to work or I do and it lasts for only a few minutes before it is bricked...AGHHHHHHH
