iPhone 2.2 firmware released
Today the beta iPhone 2.2 firmware has been released to developers. According to Macrumors the new version is labeled as iPhone OS 2.2 beta 1 and also has a beta iPhone SDK build 9M2611. iPhone Developers are not allowed to leak the new features to other people but one of the developers has leaked one of the new features. The Safari interface has been tweaked around a bit. The new version of Safari has a magnifying glass and refresh buttons at the top of the screen. A refresh icon has also been added in the URL bar. See the screenshot of the new Safari below. It will be some time until iPhone firmware 2.2 download is released to the public. I am pretty sure that the iPhone 2.2 jailbreak will come out very quickly as well! The iPod Touch 2G is not jailbreakable at the moment, the Dev Team is working on it. Hopefully they come out with a solution for it soon.

Me too I updated my iphone to the 2.2 version by mistake…like a stupid !!!! Do someone think i can go back to the 2.1 version ??????
Can I downgrade my 2.2 iphone to the 2.1 ???? Now my iphone is lock…. I’m so sad
do a complete restore not using any of the backups from when your phone was jailbroken. and your phone will work again.
just make sure you sync your contacts with outlook, yahoo contacts, or something so you can at least have them once the restore is complete.
I actually upgraded too and now can’t even restore a 2.1 firmware as iTunes 8 asks me to insert a valid SIM , what are my options ?
::RESOLUTION::
After having the issue with the update removing all my “non-authorized” apps, and any authorized app associated with the non=authorized apps, I have corrected the issue and now have access to all of my apps.
My iPod is still factory stock as far as tweaks and hacks go, but I was able to regain access by doing a FORCE RESTORE and RESTORE AS NEW IPOD.
This returned all my authorized apps to my home screen.
If updating your hacked iPhone has “bricked” it, or removed access to apps, or removed app icons, you need to force restore your device.
Do this by powering off the device, shut down iTunes.
On the device, press and hold the home button, while you are holding the home button, plug the USB cable into the device.
Continue holding the home button until iTunes shows the message…
“iTunes has encountered an iPhone in recovery mode. Please select Restore to continue.”
Restore the device.
When prompted, select “Restore iPhone as NEW.”
Do this.
Follow the prompts provided. You will need to go thorough the “Setting up your iPhone” process again, but at the end, your iPhone should be working.
Granted, it will be factory stock, but it will be working.
i did the same thing put the 2.2 firmware on my iphone. When will the 2.2 quickpwn jailbreak be released? I NEED IT! HURRY
Well guys if its Anything like 2.1. Quickpwn for Apple computers should come out in 36-48 hours and for windows 48-96 hours from NOW.
Re Simon: You are a moron.. You can’t accidentally upgrade.. it takes 20 minutes to download and you have to accept the terms of the new software.. seriously…
after i downloaded it just strait uploaded it to my phone. my bad. when will 2.2 jailbreak come out?
ALSO NOTE -
Much like “Categories” – if you have a 5 icon dock widget installed you MUST revert to 4 icons in the dock and turn off the widget PRIOR to upgrade.
Failure to do so will put you in a boot loop.
You’ve been warned!
I synced my phone to my new computer which doesn’t have the 2.1 bundle on it. Is there any way to get the 2.1 firmware again now that 2.2 is out? I was about to use the QuickPwn for 2.1 but now I can’t tell it what firmware bundle I have.
I know I could wait two days and QuickPwn will have a new version out but I’m impatient!
HHHHHELP!!!!!!!!!
ipod touch 2g quickpwn jailbreak = i will pay
I spend a full day trying to recovery my iPhone after upgrading it to 2.2 and finally I was able to go back to 2.1.
So I decided to share it with all impatient morons “like me” in the world; who upgraded their iPhone 3G to 2.2 and lost their unlocked capability; here is the resolution:
1- Download the iPhone 2.1 firmware from: http://www.spaziocellulare.com/ispazio/download-firmwares-iphone-3g/
2- Download QuickPwn21-1 from: http://thepiratebay.org/user/iphonedev/
3- Connect your iphone to your computer and turn it OFF
4- Restart your iphone in recovery by following these steps:
• Connect your iPhone to your computer
• Turn iPhone off
• Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly)
• Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
• At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.
5- From iTunes; Restore to iPhone firmware 2.1. Hold down “Shift” button and press the Restore button at the same time.
6- Choose the iphone 2.1 firmware you just downloaded in Step 1.
7- Wait till it finish. You will get one of the following errors: 1011, 1013, 1015, you can ignore them.
8- Your iPhone is restored back to Firmware 2.1. Now close iTunes
9- Unlock your iPhone using QuickPwn for iPhone ver 2.1.
Regards
Wow, these people are pretty convinced you are the dev team. This is not the iPhone Dev Team, their blog is at blog.iphone-dev.org.
Keep ROCKIN guys!! :D
just tried the above process to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1 but iTunes just doesn’t give me a choice of firmware to restore to… so how should I proceed to go back to 2.1 ?
thanks ;-)
and btw, what folder should i copy the downloaded 2.1 firmware to ?
just when is the jailbreak quickpwn 2.2 firmware going to come out?
Sometime over the weekend.
