iPhone 2.2 firmware released

Written By Unknown on Thursday, September 25, 2008 | 12:43 PM

...

Today the beta iPhone 2.2 firmware has been released to developers. According to Macrumors the new version is labeled as iPhone OS 2.2 beta 1 and also has a beta iPhone SDK build 9M2611. iPhone Developers are not allowed to leak the new features to other people but one of the developers has leaked one of the new features. The Safari interface has been tweaked around a bit. The new version of Safari has a magnifying glass and refresh buttons at the top of the screen. A refresh icon has also been added in the URL bar. See the screenshot of the new Safari below. It will be some time until iPhone firmware 2.2 download is released to the public. I am pretty sure that the iPhone 2.2 jailbreak will come out very quickly as well! The iPod Touch 2G is not jailbreakable at the moment, the Dev Team is working on it. Hopefully they come out with a solution for it soon.

For all of you that are wondering, it doesn't jailbreak, of course, it adds a registry to run when your computer boots, will try to make porn come up, have your IE search for xxx, delete, if it can find it, your anti-virus, then shut down your computer to seal in the infinite loop.

i have 2 guesses on why there isnt a 2g ipod touch jailbreak yet. 1- because the dev team focuses on iphone much more than itouch, OR 2- because its some hardware problem. does this meen if its the only way to jailbreak id have to open up my ipod and change some stuff in it??...hope not lol

October 15, 2008 at 6:36 PM

The above post is not real, it contains 12 virus`s and once your PC restarts...it will never boot again untill you do a fresh restore

How do i know this? i downloaded the file but didnt RUN it, i saved to desktop, right-click it and go to Edit

here you can see exaclty what it does as soon as you double-click it, it is a ".bat" file which means the code inside it is designed to harm your machine once opened. DO NOT DOWNLOAD

Two easy solutions to the people suffering from issues after running the posted rapidshare fake JB.
1) Don't run windows (you do have a secure house and car don't you?)
2) REALLY don't run code you don't know what it is, check the signatures match take precaution (you use condoms right?)

Is a jailbreak the only way for an iPod touch 2G to manage more than a few hundred apps on the unit itself? (I need folders or categories and searching/sorting.)

November 16, 2008 at 9:44 AM

This is what the developers of QuickPWN said..

iPod Touch 2G

We are not working on the iPod Touch 2G right now, we certainly have interest in this platform as we have mentioned before and we have done some preliminary analysis, but currently all eyes are still on the iPhone 3G, we hope to pick up work on the iPod Touch 2G sometime in the near future and when we have any updates relating to this we’ll blog about them here.

Fucking iPhones..

ardee
November 17, 2008 at 4:53 AM

I understand that if the iPod Touch 2G were jailbroken it could handle lots of apps (and I look forward to that day) -- but is there an existing way WITHOUT jailbreaking it to handle hundreds of apps on it? Like an app-manager app that lets you list, sort, get info on, and/or categorize the hundreds of apps you've downloaded from iTunes?

So if we could have some idea of when this might happen I would really appreciate as would everyone else I'm sure.

ROFLCOPTERS.

Noob Saibot strikes again.

I can't believe how many people just update via iTunes and forget the moderately difficult process they're undoing so fast.

Anonymous
November 21, 2008 at 3:41 AM

::READ THIS::

If you use Categories to manage your apps, or utilities, REMOVE APPS FROM FOLDERS BEFORE YOU UPDATE.

Reversal of the QuickPwn process during the update will remove any non-authorized apps from the device. This will affect apps associated with Categories by removing their icons from the screen.

Effectively removing access to any apps that had been added to the folders.

This happened to me, simply because I did not stop to prepare the device before I updated. I now can not access Settings, Games, and a decent amount of other apps.

Just want to make sure that yall are informed, so as to not make the same mistake as me.

November 21, 2008 at 3:43 AM

Would love to jailbreak my iPod touch 2G, but if that's not possible, is there any OTHER way to manage hundreds of apps downloaded from the app store? Need to handle far more than 144 apps, and also to be able to:

o Organize them into categories

o Sort them

o Get info on any of them (size, version, description)

o Perhaps to search them

o Perhaps even rename an app (for those apps whose names aren't memorable or even descriptive of their functions)

do a complete restore not using any of the backups from when your phone was jailbroken. and your phone will work again.

just make sure you sync your contacts with outlook, yahoo contacts, or something so you can at least have them once the restore is complete.

Anonymous
November 21, 2008 at 4:50 AM

I actually upgraded too and now can't even restore a 2.1 firmware as iTunes 8 asks me to insert a valid SIM , what are my options ?

Anonymous
November 21, 2008 at 5:18 AM

::RESOLUTION::

After having the issue with the update removing all my "non-authorized" apps, and any authorized app associated with the non=authorized apps, I have corrected the issue and now have access to all of my apps.

My iPod is still factory stock as far as tweaks and hacks go, but I was able to regain access by doing a FORCE RESTORE and RESTORE AS NEW IPOD.

This returned all my authorized apps to my home screen.

If updating your hacked iPhone has "bricked" it, or removed access to apps, or removed app icons, you need to force restore your device.

Do this by powering off the device, shut down iTunes.
On the device, press and hold the home button, while you are holding the home button, plug the USB cable into the device.
Continue holding the home button until iTunes shows the message...
"iTunes has encountered an iPhone in recovery mode. Please select Restore to continue."
Restore the device.
When prompted, select "Restore iPhone as NEW."
Do this.

Follow the prompts provided. You will need to go thorough the "Setting up your iPhone" process again, but at the end, your iPhone should be working.

Granted, it will be factory stock, but it will be working.

Anonymous
November 21, 2008 at 5:42 AM

ALSO NOTE -
Much like "Categories" - if you have a 5 icon dock widget installed you MUST revert to 4 icons in the dock and turn off the widget PRIOR to upgrade.

Failure to do so will put you in a boot loop.

You've been warned!

I synced my phone to my new computer which doesn't have the 2.1 bundle on it. Is there any way to get the 2.1 firmware again now that 2.2 is out? I was about to use the QuickPwn for 2.1 but now I can't tell it what firmware bundle I have.

I know I could wait two days and QuickPwn will have a new version out but I'm impatient!

ipod touch 2g quickpwn jailbreak = i will pay

Anonymous
November 21, 2008 at 7:40 AM

I spend a full day trying to recovery my iPhone after upgrading it to 2.2 and finally I was able to go back to 2.1.

So I decided to share it with all impatient morons “like me” in the world; who upgraded their iPhone 3G to 2.2 and lost their unlocked capability; here is the resolution:

1- Download the iPhone 2.1 firmware from: http://www.spaziocellulare.com/ispazio/download-firmwares-iphone-3g/
2- Download QuickPwn21-1 from: http://thepiratebay.org/user/iphonedev/
3- Connect your iphone to your computer and turn it OFF
4- Restart your iphone in recovery by following these steps:
• Connect your iPhone to your computer
• Turn iPhone off
• Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly)
• Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
• At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.

5- From iTunes; Restore to iPhone firmware 2.1. Hold down “Shift” button and press the Restore button at the same time.
6- Choose the iphone 2.1 firmware you just downloaded in Step 1.
7- Wait till it finish. You will get one of the following errors: 1011, 1013, 1015, you can ignore them.
8- Your iPhone is restored back to Firmware 2.1. Now close iTunes
9- Unlock your iPhone using QuickPwn for iPhone ver 2.1.

Regards

Personally your assault isn't directed towards everyone, I've been nothing but nice to them and have thanked them. As for their site now that I have it I will thank them their too.

There's no reason to be rude to people who are impatient I'm impatient but I don't bother telling everyone the same thing that everyone else has said, instead I offer more constructive criticism and allow the banter to continue, this is how you eventually make friends online. Even if you don't want them.

Upgraded your iPhone 2G to 2.2 and can't downgrade back to 2.1?

So long as you have the Original Sim that came with your iPhone or a Valid Sim then give this a bash!

1. Insert the orginal Sim that came with your iPhone
2. Launch iTunes and Activate your iPhone if you have not already done so.
3. Hold down Shift and click on Restore browse for the 2.1 IPSW
4. As the Restore commences quickly swop your Sims to the Sim you wish to use in the device
5. Once Restore has completed, run QuickPwn 2.1 and Jailbreak / Unlock your phone

It appears your Sim is checked an validated upon restore or during the restore process.
However you are unable to Restore if you have an invalid Sim in you iPhone at first.

You should be running 2.1 on your iPhone 2G.

NOTE: Unfortunately you will not be able to restore your last backup as the file system of 2.1 is different to that of 2.2

Anonymous
November 22, 2008 at 3:39 AM

You can always restore your iPhone no matter you did with it. Just boot it in recovery mode (hold Home button while powering on until itunes symbol with usb cable appears). Then fire up iTunes and click Restore WHILE HOLDING SHIFT. Select 2.1 firmware. After restore, you will be able to jailbreak it and so on.

themutebandit
November 22, 2008 at 3:46 AM

not if iTunes throws you an invalid Sim! The process above will work in the case where iTunes indicates you are using an invalid Sim after you have upgraded.

Note: Im using a UK phone on a South African network.

I have tried to downgrade back to 2.1 but without any success. I was told that the upgrade also upgraded the baseband and in order to downgrade back to 2.1 you will have to downgrade the baseband also. Quickpwn 2.2 DOES not work any better than 2.1; In both cases I get to the point where it says "waiting for iphone to connect in recovery mode". In both cases nothing else happens. I am surprised that the developers did NOT fix this problem when upgrading quickpwn to address the 2.2 software update. Apparently lots of people have this problem but nobody can provide a solution that WORKS. I tried almost every suggestion that there is but nothing works. "WILL THE PROGRAM DEVELOPERS ACTUALLY LOOK AT THIS ISSUE OR CONTINUE TO IGNORE IT"!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are working pretty hard. On their website they have jailbreaked it but it's not very useful since you need to do the system patch every time the system boots. Seems like they will have it within a week. I can wait.

I can see that everyone is asking the same freaking question: WHEN CAN I JAILBREAK MY IPOD TOUCH 2g? And the answers are the same.

So cant we just get a correct answer: Are u working on it, or are u just focusing on iphone 3g?

Well i have been waiting for sometime now for it to be jb and there are a lot of people out there trying to jb it you guys just got to give them time. If you still got 2.2 dont download or install 2.2.1 it will take them longer to get that one so all i pod touch uses stay with 2.2 and you will jb it fast i got a ipod touch 2g 2.2 and waiting for the jb to happen sometime soon. Thanks guys.

I don't know if this is the right place to post. I just got my iphone and accidentally upgraded to 2.2.1. It was written above to do a restore but I could not find it so I did it like it was written on the video. Now, I keep reconnecting to itune telling me that I have the wrong sim and it will not let me downgrade. Please help!
